I plug my reader with an SD card into my MacBookPro and I get a prompt box requesting to initialize the card. However, I have photo files on the card and I do not want to erase them. How do I retrieve or initialize without erasing?
The problem with the camera... when I put the card back into the camera, I get a message on the camera to format the card. Formatting will erase the images, also. I didn't know if there was a way around formatting to be able to pull the images off of the card.
Was the card formatted before you used the camera? If so, then you need to study the camera's documentation because I haven't a clue how to help you. You can also try calling tech support for the camera.
Yes, it was formatted. I do a clean format before each use. I shot about 8 gigs of photos, viewed them in the camera, then took the SD card out to upload on my MacBook Pro and got the "initialize" message. When I put the card back into the camera, it gives me a "format" message as if it were a new card. I am stumped.
You need to format the card with a format compatible with both your camera and the computer. Usually, that would be MSDOS or FAT32. Read the documentation for the camera to learn what to do and how.
