Why does my iPad keep losing connection to iTunes when restoring?

Hey peeps,

My uncle gave me his OLD iPad. I erased and reset all of his data.

The ipad will not connect to any WiFi network on setup (when I press the network it asks for the password but there’s no visible keyboard to type it in) FRUSTRATING. Now I can’t even get to that (or any) page of setup.

A friend told me to try restoring on iTunes, I’ve tried this but every time it got close (over 4hrs later) it popped up with an error message. Now it keeps asking me to connect it to iTunes and when the cable is connected I keep hearing the connection beep over and over again.

I still cannot get into my iPad because it is stuck on asking me to connect to iTunes, which it can’t hold it’s connection to!

I’ve tried resetting the iPad and closing and reopening iTunes but it’s still the same...I’m on day three of trying to get this dinosaur to work.

PLEASE HELP ME 😩

I think you need a new 30 pin dock connector cable to do this.

I think that 30 pin cable you have is the problem and it is old and possibly defective, now.

I would order a new cable from O W C and wait and try all of this again once you have a brand new cable.

They are a U.S. company, but I believe they DO ship internationally and to the U.K.

You can call them to confirm.

If you would rather look online from a local source, like Amazon U.K. instead, look for a cable the has the Made for iPod/iPad/iPhone logo.

Look for cables that say heavy duty cable or they use braided nylon cable covering. Look at how the connection types are connected to the actual cable part.

They should have a very beefy strain relief section at the top of the connector area where the cable meets the actual connectors.

Cheaply made cables do not last very long.

Do not purchase Apple's own cable as usually Apple's cables are made very cheaply and they ask the most for their genuine cable.

Look at the various O W C’s own cable offerings below to see what I mean about a good quality cable.

O W C's NewerTek cables are made very well.

I own various types of cables from NewerTek

I OWN and use an iPad 2 ( 64 GBs WiFi model ) every single day AND use iTunes with it to do my backup and restores.

I have owned this iPad 2 for 7-years!

I backup all of my apps on that iPad 2 to my version of iTunes.

iTunes works with ALL iPads! iTunes works with ALL iDevices!

I am telling you, I think your 30-pin cable is bad/defective or something else is going on.

You need to replace that cable and then try all of this again.

That is correct

There is a very recent software update for this iPad 2 cellular data model

It will update it to iOS 9.3.6.

Is this downloading?

If it is, let it download and install.

I wonder if you need a new 30 pin dock connector, as well, because if that is the original 30 pin cable it is 8-years old, now.

You can find these anywhere online like on Amazon or here

Shouldn't have to keep pressing update.

Maybe try holding and keeping that 30 pin dock connector pushed into the iPad, instead?

The dock connector could be loose or not making good contact.

Not sure.

I gave you a link to get a new 30-pin dock connector cable if you wish to purchase a new, better quality cable for the future.

Good Luck to You!

That is a cellular data and Wifi iPad 2 model.

If you have something small, like the end of a paperclip OR if you have the original SIM tray open tool, check to see if there is a SIM chip in the tray.

The SIM tray area is on one of the long sides of the iPad

If there is a SIM card in there, take it out and try the iTunes restore procedures again without the SIM card in the tray.
