How to Disable: Finder/Go/Recents?

In a 2017 forum dialog a superficial answer or two were provided, but the question was not definitively answered.

In Mac OS High Sierra, how does one make "Recents" under the "GO" menu either disappear or show up empty, every time, permanently, without messing up functions such as "Find"?

Thanks.

If it's new, you'll buy it I guess.

New doesn't mean better. You describe all kinds of workarounds, methods that need to be learned to achieve some approximation of tasks that used to be done in less time. Your style of working on a computer is evidently much different from mine: "Searching by name was hardly ever useful." ?!?!?! To you, perhaps, but that's the most useful criterion for me.

Sometimes new is better, of course. But in the present case, for what I want to do, flexibility and elegance is utterly lost. Smart Folders and your sorting procedures could well have been added to the current OS without taking away the smooth functionality and flexibility of the old one.

There's no accounting for taste.

Your comments about Smart Folders appear to me as a deflection from the question at hand, which is the non-option of clearing items from the Recents list without deleting the items themselves.

I find your going round and round about Recents is a deflection from solving your own problems yourself and blaming Apple for not providing you a feature which you can easily create yourself.

Nobody here can do anything about Recents. It is what it is. None of us here can bring back some useless old search function. I'm dismayed that you can't seem to come to grips with that.

Stop whining about it and create a Smart Folder that does what you want and ignore Recents. It's just a Smart Folder, too, but you cannot edit it. Make your own Smart Folder that you can tweak to your heart's content.
