New doesn't mean better. You describe all kinds of workarounds, methods that need to be learned to achieve some approximation of tasks that used to be done in less time. Your style of working on a computer is evidently much different from mine: "Searching by name was hardly ever useful." ?!?!?! To you, perhaps, but that's the most useful criterion for me.
Sometimes new is better, of course. But in the present case, for what I want to do, flexibility and elegance is utterly lost. Smart Folders and your sorting procedures could well have been added to the current OS without taking away the smooth functionality and flexibility of the old one.
There's no accounting for taste.
