Hello Apple helpers,
I upgraded to Mojave and later I changed the name of the volume on my desktop to HD Mojave instead of HD High Sierra. Now when I try to use Time Machine it never finishes "Preparing Backup ....." and hangs for an hour. How can I change this to continue adding to my previous backups, or do I need to set up a new back up on the external hard drive I use for my backups?

It seems like it is working. Sometimes that "Preparing Backup" seems to last forever, especially after a OS upgrade. Just forget about it and let it run. Come back in a couple of hours to see if it finished the backup.
If it does not finish, then look at other options.
Maybe this answer is obvious to everyone else here. I usually do poke around and see if I can figure it out myself. But with so much backed up on my Time Machine external backup disk, I don't want to mess up what's already there. Is there anyone here who can give me an answer to this question?
Thank you! You are right I just had to sit it out. It did take about 90 minutes. But it is now backing up normally. I’m so relieved! Thank you for taking the time to answer.
