Retrieving Old Mail on iPad
Can somebody please update me on how to search & retrieve old emails that are longer in my Mail inboxes?
This is for a iPad Mini 5 running on 12.4.1. The previous posts seem outdated for this OS.

If you didn't delete the mail, go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Tap the Mail Account > See if Mail Days to Sync is an option > Choose the time frame that best meets your needs.

Thanks very much for the suggestion.
Unfortunately, Settings\Passwords and Accounts\ Mail Days to Sync doesn't seem to be a listed feature for any of the 7 email accounts I have under Settings\Passwords and Accounts on the iPad. These accounts include hotmail, gmail, yahoo and own domain as well as iCloud. Am I missing something?
In passing, I noticed 'Discarded Messages' set to go to Delete. Just wondered if that's relevant. Not sure how a 'Discarded Message' is defined - is that a message that's Read, Saved and/or Deleted?
Thanks for your interest.
I have both IMAP and POP accounts amongst the 7 on the iPad. I can see the POP accounts are affected on the iPad although their older emails survive on my Mac.
On the iPad, one POP account (ISP based) truncates in July and another (Yahoo) in April; although earlier messages were certainly not deleted by me.
Do you think the earlier messages may be archived on the Cloud somewhere?
BTW, should I take it that by "Discarded", Apple means Deleted, maybe plus Junked?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Yes, discarded is deleted. As to how and why your messages disappeared, it's more than I can diagnose from my couch to where your couch is.
Well thanks for trying anyway.
I'll ask Apple and post if they have an answer that works ...
Mail days to sync is not an option in all mailboxes, so it was a hope it might apply to your situation. My work Outlook account offers this option. Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, iCloud don't. If you discard a message, it doesn't immediately discard unless you choose Remove immediately.
Did you by any chance delete these emails on a computer or other device? The type of accounts you've listed are IMAP, meaning they sync across devices. So if you delete an email on one device, they will delete on all devices.
