In Apple Photos the picture breaks up while post processing a large raw file from my Nikon D850. Apple Support says the file is too large for Apple Photos. The file is processed successfully.

What system and Photos versions are you running?
How big, file size and pixel dimensions, are the images that are giving you the problem?
What is the exact message? Post a screenshot of it with your reply.
How is that 2 TB drive formatted and connected to your Mac?
What format are your screenshots? If they are tiff change that to jpeg. They will be much smaller and be easier to post. Are you taking a screenshot of the entire screen or just an area?
I have no problem editing this jpeg:
MacOS Mojave 10.14.6, apple photos 4.0, 63mb, 8250x5500. When post processing photo has part of the the photo superimposed. Tried screen shot - too large.
Apple support (photos expert) say file too large.
I can process photos by looking at good part of original photo - can use processed photo. But while processing get superimpose image.
How much free space do you have on your boot drive? How much RAM?
I have 16GB Ram and 165GB of free space. I use a 2 TB hard drive with Photos.
So you don't use raw files. I tried but apple photos can post process but not without a somewhat distorted photo as being processed.
Some raw photos too large for apple photos 4.0. Post processing works but image is partially broken up
