Playing music on car speakers

Hi I’ve connected my iPhone 6 to my ford stereo via Bluetooth and I can make calls using car speakers, but when I play music or audiobooks on my phone they just play through the phone speaker, even while my phone is still connected to the car! Help!!!

Some audio systems only certain Bluetooth profiles, particularly older systems (6+ years). Check your car manual for details about the stereo system, it likely only supports phone calls and not the Bluetooth "A2DP" (audio) profile.

In my case, my 2011 Tacoma is like this, the stereo only support phone calls over Bluetooth -- so I put in a little Bluetooth receiver which plugs into the AUX input of my truck's stereo, and it handles music just fine (as well as phone calls).

That’s what I was explaining — Bluetooth has different types of connection technologies. Phone audio connections are different than media audio connections within the umbrella of Bluetooth technology. Your car stereo supports the phone-type audio connection, not the media-type audio connection (known as “Advanced Audio Distribution Profile“, or A2DP).

You either need to use an auxiliary Bluetooth device as I described, a new stereo, or use a USB cable.

It seems that you are having some issues with the Bluetooth profiles. Your best option at this point would be to go back to the Ford dealer and ask them for help. Their people should be able to explain whether or not your device would support playing music through your iPhone to the car, and should be able to help you make that connection if it does work, and explain, like rockmyplimsoul has, how to use other devices to connect to the stereo system.

Thank you so much. No I can connect via Bluetooth, I have both my iPod and iPhone synced and the car audio system recognises them... I know about the cable, Ive used them before but I find them very fiddly and they break easily. I really hoped with a 2013 car I could play music from my phone on the car audio, especially as I can make calls. I don't understand how it can make calls and play them on the car speakers and yet the music only plays off the phone speaker....
