Lightning to HDMI dongle/adapter on iPad

When we travel we bring a dongle/adapter to watch content from my MacBook Pro (Specifically Sling TV or Netflix) on the TV where we're staying. I'd like to purchase a similar dongle/adapter for my iPad just to be able to travel with a smaller/lighter device, but I read online that it won't allow the dongle/adapter to transfer paid content from an iPad to a TV screen.

Is that correct?

Why would it be different than from my MacBook?

You can't transfer content over this adapter, but it certainly allows you to view what's on your iPad on a TV -- once you connect to the TV via this adapter, what you see on the iPad is mirrored on the TV, so just start playing what you want to watch from the iPad. Some apps may restrict this, but that's not all that common in my experience.
