Error: ERR0093-WS Unable to configure cellular network on a replacement watch

How do I solve this problem:

I just received a new watch last night to replace an Apple Watch 4 cellular that had died During setup, got an error: ERR0093-WS when attempting to connect to cellular service. "Try again later" otherwise the watch worked fine and is a fully functional WiFi watch. Tried several times this AM to connect to cellular. Same error. At 11:00 called Apple. Support said it was an ATT problem. Called ATT, was on the phone with them for 2.5 hours. Tried everything. Then we started a conference call with Apple and ATT. Another hour of troubleshooting passed. No solution, same error. Apple believes it is a problem connecting with the ATT website. We hung up at 2:30. ATT called back at 4:00 today and made one more attempt to fix it and then ATT support said he would put in a ticket and would get back to me Monday. Guess he thought Monday was "try again later" later enough.

Frustrated to say the least.

We tried everything. Resetting the watch, wiping the watch, restarting the phone, restarting the wireless network, restarted the router, bypassing Wifi and connecting the iPhone directly via cellular and restarting the phone. No difference. No matter what, the same error message appears along with the message "Try again later."

Also tried turning on and off WiFi calling on the phone, calls on other devices. No difference.

Any suggestions?

Paul

Well the AT&T store was a small community shop. Went to the Genius bar at the Mall of America. The guy I worked with spent almost two hours working with me. He tried everything and, because I was having such trouble, talked to the store manager who did something I heard is very rare, he took my watch as a return and gave me a brand new one. Wow! With fingers crossed we set it up and bam! The same problem.

The genius felt horrible and suggested I go to the AT&T store in the Mall of America, just down the way even though the local one had failed. I was not very hopeful but this guy at the AT&T store did something that no one had tried. After trying the same process and getting the same failure. He had me turn my phone off and he instructed the tower to call my watch directly. The watch rang! He had established a direct connection to the watch without the iphone. Turned on the phone and the two were connected. Calls to the phone came to my watch. I was happy and thought all was great except for one thing, when my wife texted me, all I saw was her number and not her name.

I thought that would resolve over time. Next morning it was the same so I held my breath, erased the watch and started over. This time no error, the process went smoothly! Incoming texts showed names and all was well.

After all this, there was one bonus. Since this was the purchase of a new watch, I could purchase Apple Care. I have it on many other devices, and I had been kicking myself for not have it for all the trouble i have had with watch. The first odd activity in February of last year which slowly resolved. All is good and I won't bother with a 5. If I were to trade in this $500+ brand new watch, I would get $100.

My faith in Apple (At least the MOA Apple Store) has improved. The MOA Apple Store has always been great and continues to be. I am lucky to live near it.

Spent 1/2 hour at the AT&T store. Still no solution. They told me to make an appointment at the genius bar. Appt scheduled tomorrow.

Called the level two support today at the number he gave. He note indicated he is working on Saturday. Both attempts to call and entering his extension twice for each call. I am told by the recording it is closed.

I have been an Apple user since 1984. Apple suppore has declined significantly in the last 2 years. I am one very unhappy customer.
