I am trying to remove a name from a group message. When I swipe left I do not receive the option to remove, it takes me to the persons contact info. What do I do next to remove from group text

"Anyone in a group iMessage can add or remove someone from the conversation. You can remove a person from a group iMessage that has at least three other people. You can’t add or remove people from group MMS messages or group SMS messages"

You can only remove a name from a group message if everyone in the group is using iMessage. If anyone is using SMS, you cannot. Restoring your phone to factory state will not change that.

No, they do not. This is a user to user support forum and Apple does not participate here. The ability to remove someone from a group message can only be handled when the group is only iOS devices. A mix of devices makes the message an MMS, not a group iMessage. Apple can only control iMessage. The ability to modify the recipients of an MMS is controlled by the carriers, since they control SMS/MMS.

My phone hasn't stopped doing anything. If anyone in the group is using SMS, you cannot remove them from a group message. That has always been the case.

If its an sms group text you can't remove yourself. I am very frustrated with Apple messaging app because I feel like I'm being held hostage in an sms group chat that I don't want to be in. I should not have to tell the person that started it to take me off. That should be an option that I have on my own. They really need to fix this!

Nope! You cannot Remove the member you wish to delete from a group text thread I’ve tried doing it and the thing that’s happening is the same thing but the question is stealing… The contact information appears there is no delete option when you try swiping because every time I try swiping the contact information comes out there is no red delete button and it is very frustrating!

I agree about being frustrated. After new software was downloaded as an update, all previous groups on my message ap reappeared. -- groups from two years ago and there is no way to get rid of them. Does anyone have an answer?

This is an obvious bug. I've been to two Apple stores and the Geniuses could not resolve this.

They just said to report it to Apple Support.

You used to be able to swipe to eliminate old groups. I believe this stopped working in IOS13..

IOS 13.3 still did not fix this issue.

Sending texts gets Messier and messier and messier as multiple group combinations accumulate and cannot be modified or removed.

Also in response to others who said You can only remove groups if the members all are using iMessage (I.E.use. iPhones), This is not true. Group contacts cannot be removed no matter what combination they are in.

Okay, you are not trying to remove a name from a group message, you are attempting to modify a group that has been created and is appearing when you type a name. That is not what you were asking. The search history is not something that can be deleted right now, what you do is create a new grouping for the current message.

I believe he is being purposely a fool! I understood your question perfectly and am having the same issue. This may be a deal breaker with Apple. I don’t have the time or patience to sort through 50 past group messages. COME ON APPLE...LISTEN TO US!

I agree this is a mess! We used to ge able to swipe and delete a group contact. Now when we text we have to go through a billion group contacts to find the one single contact. It’s so frustrating. You have to be so careful to text the correct contact. Help
