Ah. That's 99% likely to be a malware issue. Run MalwareBytes from https://www.malwarebytes.com and see if that helps.

I suggest that you run an EtreCheck report and post it here so that we can assist you with this issue:
It is Adware...

Why don't you post the etrecheck report so we can peruse it...
Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...
Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.
I only use firefox... pop up window did come up, although only a very few times. I am now just using my phone to check mail.
Don't see any fix for this. Must be really new. I even bought Norton AND installed Malware bytes. Neither helped. Will continue to monitor this thread

actually not so good...it came back today!
So I went back to firefox preferences, security and chose custom. Selected everything but cookies. Seems to be working. I believe someone is using yahoo mail as a portal. No telling what would happen if I clicked "open" on these things.
Have used norton as well Malwarebytes and trendmicro. Laptop appears to be virus free, although some were found with norton (probably just to make me feel good about buying it..lol.)
Isn't anyone else having this issue. Searches bring up very little (just this thread!). helpppp!

When I open yahoo.com in a new file, three windows open that look like this (and they seem to appear at various other times as well) -
think i fixed it. Firefox- preferences. scroll down to "blocking" ... choose "strict".
Can you provide more information please?
Do you mean that if you double click a file with .com extension, it opens with an application which saves as .php?
I would suspect that your Mac has been "infected" by adware. The EtreCheck report should discover this.
I am having this same issue. Neither of the two suggested programs helped. Must be extremely new. This is the only place I found any mention of this. I hope it is adware.

have you got this fixed?
doesn't help.
If that works, it will only apply to Firefox. Do you use other browsers and if so, do these exhibit the same problem?
Finally got it to go away by doing a time machine restore to a much earlier date.
Good work. :)
