MB Pro, internal speakers not working.

Since about a month, the speakers in my MBPro dont work. I have the mbpro connected to displayport monitors, and a dongle with Ethernet and USB, but no sound devices.

In the audio settings, I have the "internal speakers" selected, and volume is at max, and mute is off. Nothing can use the speakers, e.g. skype, chrome etc. If I connect a bluetooth speaker, and select this, I get sound. Internal speakers are simply dead for no apparent reason.

I tried rebooting, this has no effect.

It might be worthwhile to check your "Audio MIDI Setup" in the Applications Folder/ Utilities. Maybe the internal speakers are set to only "Play Alerts and Sound Effects Through This Device" (your internal speaker output).

SMC and NVRAM Resets:

Restart your Mac and then reset your SMC to fix this. Also, reset your NVRAM.

Terminal:

Use These Two Commands in Terminal to Maintain Your Audio:

  • osascript -e 'set volume output volume 100’

  • osascript -e 'set volume output muted FALSE'
