Cannot send pics directly from camera roll

Why is this not an option unless iMessage is turned on? Is there any way to restore this functionality on the XS/XS Max? It is very frustrating to take a screenshot, swipe it away, go to the message and use the camera roll icon. I could send the shot directly with my X and cannot understand the reasoning behind taking it away. It causes many extra steps and I see a number of iPhone owners with the same complaint. If it is possible with iMessage on, why is not without it?

iMessage won’t attach photo from non-camera roll choices On iPhone XS or my iPad 11” pro, I can’t seem (lost the ability from prior) to get photos to attach to messages if they are not on the camera roll. If I navigate to photo stream, or other locations, once I select “choose”, it goes back to message with nothing attached. photos and iMessage whenever i'm texting someone and want to send them a picture that im taking currently (not from my camera roll), after i take that picture it automatically saves it to my photos. is there a way to turn this off, so that way when i take a picture in messages it doesn't end up on my camera roll?

Why can’t I instantly send photos from camera roll? Recently bought the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and I the only way I can send pictures through text messages is if I go into my text app, why? With previous iPhone XS Max I would be able to go into my camera roll and just send them through there but now I don’t have the option. Same with my screenshots, I don’t get the option to send it via text, just email, snap, etc..
