How come when I just received notification of a new iPhone update to 12.4.1, my headphones are no longer supported by this phone? They are apple headphones and have worked for years. Don’t tell me to upgrade and that’ll fix it. Because that means to me that apple created the issue so I would update.

Unplug them, plug them back in.
Clean the connector on the headphones with a dry cloth.
Lightning cables have a chip in the connector.
It's possible something has gone wrong with the chip or the cable.
When I attempt to use my headphones I receive the message “Accessory not supported”. I cleaned off the jack, restart my phone, reset my settings, and nothing seems to work. This just happened out nowhere. Can anyone help?
I did still the same. I was actually using them when all of a sudden the music stop and stopped working...and the notification came on.
