Cannot Delete an “Unpaired” Apple TV from iPhone

I am on an iPhone XS running iOS 12.4.1.  My problem is with the list of devices in AirPlay and the Apple TV Remote app on my iPhone.

When I go to use AirPlay or the Remote app on my iPhone, an Apple TV that is not mine is listed.  In the Remote app, this Apple TV is labeled “unpaired”.  Tapping this unpaired Apple TV brings up the code to pair the Apple TV with my iPhone.  However, I have no idea where this Apple TV is.  My own Apple TV is already paired and works fine.  The unpaired Apple TV does not appear on my list of devices on iCloud.

The problem is I cannot delete this unpaired Apple TV from the device list on my iPhone.  In the Remote app, hitting “Edit” on the device list does not show the unpaired Apple TV, and there appears no option to remove it.

How do I delete this unpaired device from the AirPlay device list?

For AirPlay, it can only show devices which are on your Wi-Fi network. Do you live in an environment where a neighbor might access your Wi-Fi? It sounds as though someone has connected their Apple TV to your Wi-Fi, and it is their Apple TV that is displaying the pairing code when you select it. Maybe change your Wi-Fi password, and make sure that it is secured with WPA2.
