If I’ve turned on Lost Mode, will whoever finds it be able to login to my iCloud and get my info or pictures?

I’ve lost my iPad. It’s not on my plan, so it only works on WiFi. I’ve turned on Lost Mode (from find my iPhone app) but it’s still offline. I’ve set the passcode and message once it’s turned on. Whoever has found it won’t be able to login to my information or get ahold of my iCloud pictures right? I just want to make sure I’m not in jeopardy of losing my pictures and info. If someone steals it, I assume they’ll just jailbreak it or something and start fresh, meaning my stuff will remain untouched. Please tell me I’m right. 😬

Hello,

As long as you passcode protected to your iPad prior to misplacing it then no one will be able to gain access to the device. Apple also has something called Activation Lock which cannot be unlocked without inserting the device’s associated Apple ID meaning that even if they restore the iPad to factory settings the iPad will remain locked with your Apple ID and will the iPad will be useless to them.

Hello,

If you remove the device in question from your Apple ID then your data will not be removed from the iPad. The iPad will no longer be Activation Locked meaning whoever has the device will be able to restore it to factory settings and set it up as their own device. You can issue a remote wipe of your iPad through icloud.com -> Find My -> Tap your iPad -> Erase device.

When you put it in lost mode did you erase it? If you did then it can no longer be tracked. Likewise if you had the option to erase after 10 passcode tries. But it should still appear in the list if you log in to https://icloud.com/find. Did you get and respond to an email or text saying your phone had been found? If you did and responded you gave away the phone to whoever found it.

The other way it could disappear is if whoever has it hacked your Apple ID and password. If you had 2 factor authentication enabled this would have been impossible. If you didn't it would be fairly easy for them to get Apple to reset the password, but if this happened you would no longer be able to log in to your Apple ID.

Okay I did what you said. And up until this morning, my iPad has been offline which meant that it couldn’t be erased or lost mode activated until online. Well this morning I woke up and it’s gone. Completely disappeared. Which means someone figured out how to get in there or reset it. Im

electronically challenged so forgive me if I sound stupid. I assumed once it was online I would get an alert with a location before it erased completely, but I didn’t. Now what? There’s no way it can be located now right? I’m just SOL ? ☹️

NO! NO! NO! That is exactly the WRONG thing to do! Put it in lost mode and erase it, but leave it on your account forever. That way it becomes unusable by whoever finds it. Except that if it doesn't have a passcode all of your content will be visible until it connects to Wi-Fi. But it's too late to worry about that now. There's nothing you can do about it.
