when I receive a text from a friend of mine that has an android the message is repeated in the text box. I don’t get the text twice, but the message within the text box is repeated. Has anyone experienced this and if so how did you fix it?
Well that would be a good question, if that’s what I said. I said the person I’m having the problems with HAS A ANDROID like russ284 said. So bottom line — of course, I have an iPhone and the person I’m having problem with has a android.
Contact the both of your carriers to resolve your issue.
Apple doesn't provide you with SMS feature.

The thing is that SMS is a carrier feature, so you have to resolve it with them on both sides.
