No sound output from homepod when connecting to Apple TV 4k under Youtube App.

The combination of Apple TV/ HomePod/ Youtube can work properly at first setup. And I try other APP like Netflix can work properly, sound can output from HomePod.

After Apple TV sleep and wake up, the device linking is still connected from Apple TV to HomePod by airplay. But when I launch Youtube, the sound cannot be heard by HomePod. At the same time, I launch Netflix, the sound can be heard by HomePod.

In order to solve this problem, I have to reboot Apple TV. And the device linking will change to Apple TV/ TV(HDMI). After changing the device linking to Apple TV/ HomePod, the sound can be heard by HomePod under Youtube.

I need to do these steps when I want to watch Youtube, this situation is very troublesome.

I have tried another way. Before playing Youtube, go to Apple TV's setting menu to set the audio path to TV(HDMI). On the same page, set the audio path to Homepod from TV(HDMI) immediately. Then play Youtube, HomePod with sound. But every time I need to do these step is very troublesome.

Btw OP, I was able to send audio to HomePod if I set the audio to HomePod before going into the app. Why on earth would they disable the Apple TV settings like that?

I just tested it and I can’t even swipe down to access audio settings from YouTube app. Swiping down just flashes the menus. It didn’t do this the last time I used it. It must have updated. I see other complaints about it.

It’s an issue with youtube, the app can be updated on the 4K. Or delete the app and reinstall to get a fresh version of it.

i haven’t tested mine to see. I rarely use youtube.

Alternatively you could try just unplugging the HomePod for a few seconds and plug back in.

Don’t bother reinstalling, it won’t work. YouTube changed it. I sent feedback to YouTube, tt2 posted a link to do that.

The only way is to do as you said and set the audio to HomePod first in settings or another app that allows swiping down. It can’t be done within the youtube app.
