Apple ID Suggestions

My phone has requested I log in to my apple ID to update my Apple ID. It won't complete the log in though, so every time I enter it it then shows a pinwheel that never loads and I get stuck with a frozen phone. My phone won't load messages or apps and shows black screen and then closes it. I have tried resetting and turning the phone off and on again and nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions welcome
