Unknown Error (78)

After updating software, iTunes gave us an error message: 'unknown error (78)'.

It also says that the software cannot be updated; it can only be restored to factory setting.

We do NOT have the photos and contacts backed up. We would like to recover/download photos and contacts BEFORE restoring to original factory setting. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you for your help.

What state is the phone in now? If it's disabled, it's too late for that. Once the phone is disabled, it can't be backed up.

i have this problem too with iPhone 6 plus wont quit dfu mode with iTunes error 78

Hi, would you please clarify how to check the state of the phone? I am not sure how to check whether it is 'disabled' or not. How do I check when it became 'disabled'? Thank you.
