How to restore prior iCloud backup

When you backup with iCloud, you overwrite the previous backup, so you only have one iCloud backup per device. If you have multiple iOS devices, you can have multiple iCloud backups but it is still one backup per device.

You can’t go back in time on a particular device to select older iCloud backups.

During the restore you'll be given an option to choose what backup to use. It will have the most recent as the default but you can choose a different date.

That’s really interesting because I have been telling users that iCloud overwrites the last backup for each individual device. I have multiple backups, but I have multiple devices. In fact, I have received a few Apple Recommends for telling people that iCloud overwrites the last backup.

I just tested restoring an iPad and I have multiple dates I can restore from under Other Backups.

In fact, it gave me the option of restoring from multiple restore points from all of my devices. I’m on mobile right now so I can’t get the link but I’ve also received an Apple Recommended for posting that you can choose your restore date.

Getting AR’s for conflicting advice isn’t a new thing at all. :)
