reading mail on my iPhone 7 plus

When I am reading mail I scroll down the list going back in time. At some point I might follow the string of answers and questions in one particular message to months back in time. When I have finished I want to get back to the top of the list - I have a lot of mail and it can take a long time scrolling back to the top.

I have tried a trick of searching for a mail that I received recently but that only works if you have a good memory.

Is there a quick way to do this, to get back to the top, to the most recent email; a particular gesture or a request to make?

I get very frustrated with the scrolling - someone out there must have found an answer.
