trying to migrate (by Time Machine) the back-up from my old MacBook Pro to my new iMac through migration assistant. The process has been stalled with 6 hours remaining for the whole day. There is also a notification about new software. Any solutions please?
Is the Time Machine backup to a Time Capsule or to an external hard drive? If the former, and you still have the notebook, have you tried to verify the backup to be sure that it is not corrupted? For the latter, have you tried using Disk Utility's First Aid option to do the same for the external drive?

The back up is on a WD drive, running through Time machine. The back up was progressing fine for the fist few hours but then stalled with 6 hours to go. I don't have the lap top any more, unfortunately.
I will try your DU First Aid suggestion to see if that solves the issue.
