Color issues with this iMac retina 5K monitor

I thought I explained it as clearly as I could but guess not. Also I did spell a word that didn't make sense. I meant to say I used the built-in calibration to see if that would help. I haven't calibrated since earlier this year. I was having the same issue then as well but it didn't work then and didn't work today.

So this tint box that I was referring to, and was given in this file to re-work, is an rgb color. R-228, G-229, B-230, it's a gray color, then the slider is set at 40%. The client brought my attention to it because he can see it on his monitor but I can't see it on mine. I have an iMac 27" Retna 5K. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced color visibility issues with the same iMac as mine and if there's anything that can be done about it.

you may be right. This is a 2015 even though I bought it in 2027 which is kinda weird.

But you bring up another BIG issue. Last year I upgraded the OS to Mojave and it would boot up. I was bumped up to senior apple support and they consulted with engineering. So they wanted me to take it the genius counter. I decide to take it to a very good authorized apple specialist. They tried and had the same issue. They wiped the disk and migrated all my files and high Sierra OS back on.

i haven’t tried to upgrade since. Now the downside is my Adobe CC subscription doesn’t seem to provide updates anymore because of my older OS.

So I probably can’t take your recommendation that a newer system may help my color problem unless I take the risk again. I was w/o a computer fir a week last time with a lot of client work. All this not to even mention my apple wireless mouse locks up randomly almost everyday.

About this Mac says 2015 though I bought it in 2017. It’s a 27” iMac Retna 5K running high Sierra 10.13.6.

32mb ram 1TB hard disk and whatever else I could get with it. Loaded but still can take mor ram.

I read through this article and downloaded the software for DisplayCAL. Unfortunately it says I can't open the dmg file because it's from an unknown unidentified developer. I was sure looking forward to trying this.

Don't know if you received but I replied last evening from my iPhone. Yes I could see the tint you made from the iphone screen. Haven't tried it yet on my iPad Pro but my iMac is what is my real problem. Apple replaced this iMac at no charge not long after I bought for another issue and now that old issue is returning. I'm beginning to feel ripped off.

I don't think they are. It just makes you question why I bought this in 2017 and it may be an older model because about this mac says it's a 2015.

Color is critical to clients and the way this rent 5K technology had been touted it's very disappointing when a client comes back at you in IM and asks you if you can see the tint boxes behind the text and I have to say "Duh" No i don't.

I just downloaded DisplayCAL and can't open the .dmg file because it's an unidentified source.

I appreciate everyone's responses and willingness to help with this believe me. I've owned a Mac since my first one which was a MacPlus. I've had probably 10 Macs and have 3 now. Three Older iMacs and this Retna 5K.

I agree. Was hoping there may be some easier less cost answers but should know better. Someone suggested DisplayCAL but the .dmg won't open. Says it's an unidentified source.

I too have been at this since 86. I had color burst rip and calibration software which I can't remember the name of offhand, but the device attached to the screen by suction. I had it color calibrated to my Epson StylusPro 4800, which I still have. This was when I had a MacPro workstation. I did a lot of paint label work which required v accurate color across all devices and platforms.

So those days are gone but would not have bought this client would be that worried about prices color. After all what you see on the screen is one thing, but the number value don't lie. Just nice to see what you'll be getting.

I appreciate the knowledge you have and saved this in a text file in case I can't get back to this. I checked the X-Rite 1Display Pro it's $258.80 on Amazon. The SpyderX Pro is $170, the SpyderX Elite is $269.99 bot also on Amazon Sounds like the Spyder Elite also does your phone and iPad or laptop which i couldn't care less. Which would you recommend between Th X-Rite and SpyderX Pro??

Sounds like more than I need. So I think I'll opt for the X-Rite Pro i guess would be 1

Have been a busy with a client lately but I checked out the X-Rite i1 Studio that runs if I can remember $169 and is available on Amazon. The Pro is $258 and looks like it calibrates more devices. Really don't care about color accuracy on my iPhone 8+ or my iPad Pro. I don't create files on them. I just don't want to waste money even on the Studio version if it's not going to work on this Retna 5K. I emailed them with that concern and was wondering if I'd get a refund if it doesn't work. I didn't ask that but it's a concern of mine.

Anyway it's been over a week, maybe two and no reply. When I get a chance I'm going to call. But I'm leaning toward the Studio. Says you can calibrate your monitor to your printer. Mine is a Epson StylusPro 4800. They don't make it anymore but Epson support tells me it's the best one they ever made so I'm keeping it. Had a photographer I used to use want to buy it.

I checked the meter too and the values were off from what they had set in this file.
