Midi editor selected 'notes' silent

Midi editor shows the value bars in the piano roll and play as input in the active track, but are silent when selected with the pointer in the editor window. This makes editing a real challenge for me as I prefer to edit by ear. All devices and setting the same unless there's been a logic update that has thrown a curve ball at me. This set up has been just fine for a few years.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks
