Argh, sorry to hear your going through the same thing..but it’s comforting to know I’m not the only one 😬 I spent hours with apple support online...doing updates through iTunes etc nothing worked. Apple told me to go to an Apple store and get them to run a diagnostics test...that it’s a hardware problem possibly! It’s bullshit my phone worked perfectly fine before this...I can unlock my phone..just can’t close or switch apps! So I decided to do a full restore and just deal with having to wait for everything to upload again from a backup..and guess what..still didn’t fuckjng work! The interim solution is to add the “home button” it’s a pain in the ***, but it’s a solution for now!! Surely we can’t be the only two people on the planet having identical issues!! Hope you haven’t ur phone yet...I was close

rdc you are talking about internet pages not apps......from what I guess.......and if you can swipe up from the bottom whether it’s anywhere on the bottom then you don’t have the “said” problem. The only known “temp” fix is to do what people are saying in this thread and use assistive touch. For me I can use the swipe up to unlock my phone but as to apps.....no go! So that tells me it’s not a screen issue and it is possible some might have that issue after a screen change but I would think if you can unlock your phone by swiping up I wouldn’t think it would be a screen issue but maybe software.....but may not be true as well. Gonna try the update that’s out now.....tried the first update after iOS 13 and no go but see there’s another update again..... iOS 13.1.1

Hey,

If you swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the middle of the screen AND then leave your finger there touching the middle of the screen for a second before lifting your finger off the screen, you should get a series of windows of all the open apps. You can swipe left or right to scroll through the apps and swipe up on an app to close it.

I think this is what you were trying to do, yes?

This is spelled out in the iPhone User Guide for IOS 13.1, which is free in the Apple Books app and has all kind of useful info.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I think I answered this below. The trick is, when you’re in an app, use your finger to swipe up from the bottom to the middle of the screen AND (this is important) leave your finger on the screen for a second once it gets to the middle of the screen. Then a set of windows with all the open apps should appear. You can swipe left or right to scroll through them and swipe up to close any of them. That works for me (and is how they explain it in the IOS 13.1 User Guide).

I really think you don't have this problem............I'm trying what you're saying but the problem people are having on here is that they can't do that very thing the couple of you are suggesting to do.........the app switch is that bar on the bottom......others and me can't swipe up at all no matter if it's on the left or right or the middle on the bottom. There is no swipe up option for us.....it doesn't work. I may be wrong but what you guys are suggesting is something that would work if we had a swipe up option.... but then we wouldn't have a problem at all then cause it would be working and then we could swipe up and hold for a second to do your suggested option as well. My swipe up "only" works on the unlock screen (which I don't think is really an app switch feature...just unlocks) to get to home screen or last app that was up. And if an app is open when I unlock my phone the only way to get rid of it is to use assistive touch. So for your option to work my swipe up must work which it doesn't at all. Now if there was some option in setting that was not on that I don't know of......then maybe I can see that. But this phone of mine worked fine completely before iOS 13.......so why would it change now......even it what your saying is explained in the user's guide. So like I told rdc maybe show what setting you are on to help others if you are having this problem which seems to be on iPhone X to help them cause I'm sure they and I would thank you for a work around till a fix will hopefully come out...thanks

You can't downgrade iOS as it's not supported by Apple.

Have any of you who are having this issue on iPhone X had your screens replaced by an aftermarket service?

Before I got iPhone 11 Pro Max, our iPhone X was having absolutely no issues with swipe up. Waiting for a software fix seems unlikely given this is not affecting all iPhone X phones out there.

There are several videos on how to downgrade to iOS 12.4.1 but the window for apple to sign this software is closing. If you truly can not deal with this issue you all should look that process up. It has worked for me. The only problem was I had to use an old iOS 12 backup but all my messages were instantly restored upon logging into iCloud account so nothing was lost. Good luck! Took about 20 minutes to complete.

Doesn't help anyway as those afflicted will come here anyway. Only I keep forgetting the folks having this issue are ones who have had their screens replaced on iPhone X with an aftermarket screen. What I don't know or suggest to anyone is whether Apple would even consider letting someone pay for Apple to replace the screen on a device which has been serviced by an unauthorized service?

Experiencing this “swiping up” problem right now (just checked swiping down and it doesn’t work either). This happens when trying to switch between apps or when turning the iPhone on to unlock the phone. Used Assistive Touch to navigate to Safari so I could share this.

i have the iPhone XS. The screen is the original OEM screen.

I have iOS 13 installed. I see that there is an update for iOS 13.1.2 so I’ll try that and see if it resolves this bug.

Why do people keep providing the same irrelevant suggestions?

There’s no response from the iPhone when swiping up. Multiple people have already said they haven’t replaced their screens. Trying to swipe a circle or some form of the number 7 doesn’t work because, as mentioned before, there’s zero response when swiping.

Troubleshooting is always appreciated on the Apple forums but it doesn’t make sense to keep suggesting the same bad advice. Just confuses the issue further.
