Argh, sorry to hear your going through the same thing..but it’s comforting to know I’m not the only one 😬 I spent hours with apple support online...doing updates through iTunes etc nothing worked. Apple told me to go to an Apple store and get them to run a diagnostics test...that it’s a hardware problem possibly! It’s bullshit my phone worked perfectly fine before this...I can unlock my phone..just can’t close or switch apps! So I decided to do a full restore and just deal with having to wait for everything to upload again from a backup..and guess what..still didn’t fuckjng work! The interim solution is to add the “home button” it’s a pain in the ***, but it’s a solution for now!! Surely we can’t be the only two people on the planet having identical issues!! Hope you haven’t ur phone yet...I was close

My screen is 100% the one I got when I got my iPhone X brand new so this can’t be true. My phone doesn’t have one scratch on it anywhere and I still cannot swipe up to close apps or to get to the home screen. I can swipe up to unlock my phone though and to exit the Siri screen but that is all. Doesn’t make any sense. It worked perfect rly before the update to iOS 13.0 and 13.1.

I just got the iPhone Xr with iOS 13.1 yesterday and had the same issue. I played around a bit (I'm an experimentalist) and after a few minutes I found the answer. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen like you normally would. But instead of swiping and letting go, keep your finger on the screen for a second or so. The open apps will start to peek in on the left hand side of the screen. When you remove your finger from the screen, all the open apps will move to the center of the screen. You can then swipe up on each open app to delete as normal.

I cannot seem to swipe out of apps after updating to IOS 13.1, however, before even the update appeared I was somewhat skeptical on downloading because the same issue appeared while updating to IOS 13 beta. Furthermore, even while experiencing these issues I trusted the new update with hopes to not coming across this same issue but unfortunately even while my instincts kept telling me not to update I decided to anyway. Apple, I do not want to restore or even downgrade to another software and willing to use assistive touch until this issue is fully resolved but when is the next update going to be available??? Also, I have seen that myself along with other 165 IphoneX users are also experiencing this issue but please resolve this issue for us faithful customers.

Thank you,

Christian.

P.S For those experiencing this issue, how have you been able to cope with this problem, assistive touch has seem to be working for me but I am sure that it is only a matter of time before frustration and irritability appears.

I am aware of that. If you look above this is a reply to the Q: cant swipe up and close apps after IOS 12 upgrade Iphone X, so I do not see where you get Home button from when clearly neither the question nor my reply to this post even mention a home button issue besides not being able to swipe out of apps when updating to newest software update that is the point of this post.

The point of my post? I created it because I can’t close my apps, and haven’t been able to since the update...I’m pretty confident I made the subject matter quite clear, as have all the other people complaining about the same problem...and there is a home button for the iPhone X, so to speak...you can add one if you want to in settings...handy in situations such as, furthermore proving the point of my post..and questioning the reason behind yours?

Thanks for that hot tip...I’ve got no idea if they know when another update is coming out...I knew the date of iOS 13 release, and that of the 13.1 and there is a 13.2 also...the purpose of the forum is for users to share their experiences, knowledge and advice, and it seems to be working. As for Apple, I’ve been on the phone, live chat and emailed them...they haven’t fixed it yet and I dare say this crap will keep on going until they do.

Hmm I’m sorry, I created the question and I’m hoping you meant “after iOS 13 update” not “12” when explaining what your were responding to?

every reply a user leaves, I’m being notified, and there is room for confusion as more posts are added before I have responded to others....And it’s safe to say I’m now hella confused!

moral of the story (even if it’s just my story atm) I still have no fix for the problem, happy to hear some others are having success with other means and models...eagerly waiting till I can say the same :)

I spoke with apple before creating this post, so I do get your concern on my level and point scale as a new user on apple communities but sometimes assumptions of what users bring into the thread is clearly unreliable as to which direction I was headed on while creating this post. The post was created for open to interpretation to those who are experiencing the issue while incorporating some apple directives of positive feedback and criticism with the least intention of caring if they will be seeing this post.

So, hooray and bravo I applaud to you that you are level 9 and with (50,906) points and hope to some day reach your level, but in the least I will most certainly not direct or reply to users into levels of understanding unless asked to while making sure that I can assist them with their level of question and/or concern.

Thank you for mentioning it, because honestly up until 2 nights ago I was under the impression that Apple might join the convo, i must be crazy or was in a totally different area when I saw Apple replying to user issues...which admittedly is why I created my “first” post here to begin with ( 8 points proves I’m a newbie in this department lol)

thanks for your input, and apologies if there was some hostility on my behalf...whether I’m interpreting some of the replies in the wrong tone is probably to be questioned. 😬 I guess there’s a few frustrated people out there and Im feeling it’s starting to show..lol

thankyou, hope you too have a great evening!

take care

I am having the same issue. If you go to SETTINGS, ACCESSIBILITY, TOUCH and turn ON ASSISTIVE TOUCH. You will be able to switch between apps. Issue is not resolved but at least you can use your phone.

So this circle appears on your screen. Acts as your home button.

You click on it and press the home button to go to your main screen.

you click it, click device, then more, then app switcher. Then you can close apps.
