iwatch app on iphone 11 stuck on ''installing''

Hi, I just bought an iphone 11 after having an iphone a couple of years ago with the iwatch. When I tried to launch the iwatch app now it prompted me to update my watchos to 5.3.1 - i downloaded it and the watch have installed it and is ready to be paired up. however the phone app is stuck with

''watchOS 5.3.1 - installing..." with the sub-message of not restarting the apple watch or removing it from the charger.

I waited for about half an hour when nothing happened, then i tried restarting the watch, nothing happened on the iphone app. Then I tried closing the app, the same message still stuck when i opened it.

Tried restarting the iphone and deleting and redownloading the app, with the same result.

Have anyone experienced the same, and have a fix for it? The i watch is series 4 (so not the one released this year)

Hi BoKo991,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities and congratulations on your new iPhone! I understand that the Watch app on your iPhone is stuck displaying "watchOS 5.3.1 - Installing..." but the installation is complete on your Apple Watch. I also see that you've tried restarting both devices as well as removing and redownloading the Watch app. I know it's important to be able to pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone; I'd like to help. Based on the steps you've taken so far, I'd recommend using the steps below next:

Because both your device is compatible, you may be prompted to update to watchOS 6 upon completing set up.

Let me know what you find.

Best Regards.
