What cables do I need for this old Mac monitor ?

My neighbor just offered me this Mac monitor but I’m not sure what cable might make it possible for me to connect my MacBook Air or 2009 MacBook Pro to this- any hep?

Forget the last paragraph. I just noticed the computer types you kindly furnished.

A 2009 MacBook Pro has a MiniDisplay port so a MiniDisplay cable should work.

Ports have changed on the MacBook Airs so we need to know the sub-model.

The port layout says you have an A1407 27-inch ThunderBolt monitor, a very nice piece of kit.

Its spec sheet: https://support.apple.com/kb/SP642?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Its user manual is here: https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1594/en_US/thunderbolt_display_getting_started.pdf

It uses a ThunderBolt cable although a MiniDisplay cable may work with some computers. Here is an Apple article on Thunderbolt cabling: About Apple Thunderbolt cables and adapters - Apple Support

If you give us an idea of what computer model you wish to attach and its sub-model (from "About this Mac") we may be able to offer more specific cabling suggestions.
