It will change to unfollow. Unfortunately, there is a current bug in the forum software. If one has made several posts to a thread clicking Following once doesn't unfollow you. Here's the workaround:

1. Click Following and it will change to Follow
2. Refresh the page
3. If Following comes back on, go to 1.

It will take several passes through the procedure.

Probably Yahoo is syncing the message back to your phone, so from the phone's perspective it is a new message. The fact that it's some messages is probably a race (timing) condition.

You might want to consider using the Yahoo mail app instead.

Well, I have 6 email addresses in my mail app, and none of them exhibit this problem. I don't have my yahoo email address in Mail so I can't see if it has a problem for me. But most likely it's something odd about Yahoo, so you might want to check a Yahoo support forum.

I have the same issue - it started a couple of weeks ago... I've spoken to Apple and they say it must be a Yahoo issue, as their website shows the same messages as unread and Apple Mail only shows a copy of what's on the server. I have been unable to reach Yahoo for help (no email or form whatsoever...).

Having same exact issue.

If sending an email from my Yahoo email address, whether I do it through the mail app on iOS or on through Mac Mail, those sent messages are marked as unread in both "All Sent" folder on iPhone and in individual Yahoo account sent folders on both iPhone and Mac.

When sent through my Mac Mail, I have noticed a delay in Yahoo sent messages being downloaded to my iPhone. But that might just be something between my two devices.

If anyone finds a solution to the issue re: Yahoo sent email being marked as unread on both an iPhone and/or a Mac, I would really appreciate you sharing.

It has only started to occur in the last few weeks. In addition, on checking on my wife's iPad Air, she too has the same issue, and again only in the last few weeks, more or less concurrent with the various updates.

And AOL/yahoo has had a lot of mail problems in the past few weeks. There have been extensive delays. When you read a message that fact gets sent to the server, which then updates your phone. So it doesn’t actually get marked as read until that round trip is completed.

I'm having the same issue with my Yahoo account. Sent messages get marked as unread. I've rebuilt and reindexed all Yahoo mailboxes and problem persists. Seemed to start with recent Catalina update.

I have been having this issue as well for approximately the same time frame.

It occurs whether messages are sent via iPhone mail or Thunderbird mail client on my Windows PC, though not if sent from Yahoo's web client. I have to surmise this is a Yahoo issue with IMAP.

This is an iOS issue. the only time this happens is when i send myself reminder emails from my iphone or ipad using apple's email app.

Apple-get off your *** and fix this - started about two weeks ago.

Larry, I ain't a tech guy - especially not a Level 9 and I only have 8 points - I know what I know and I have tried different ways of sending emails and every time I send myself an email from my iphone i get doubles in my sent items, one unread and one read

APPLE FIX THE ISSUE

I have both gmail and yahoo configured on my iPhone (13.1.3), my iPad (12.4.2), and Mac (10.14.6). I only have this issue for sent items for my yahoo account. Emails sent from my gmail account show as read in my sent items (compared to unread in my yahoo sent items).

I've tested sending emails from all three, and especially for iPad and iPhone which are running different versions of iOS. The issue is consistent.

I'm confident this is a Yahoo issue.

I'll focus on those forums for a solution now.

Same here...if sending an email through Yahoo webmail, the "unread email" problem in the sent folder doesn't occur.

Problem occurs on my Mac desktop using Apple Mail and Thunderbird. Also on my Chromebook Gmail app.

Funny thing is, sometimes if I send an email using a NON-Yahoo account through Apple Mail, the sent email will end up in the Yahoo Sent folder and show as unread. Maybe that's a clue for you tech guys.
