iPhone: some emails in “All Sent items” showing as unread

This is an iOS issue. the only time this happens is when i send myself reminder emails from my iphone or ipad using apple's email app.

if i send an email to myself from my yahoo mail app or from my web browser the problem doesn't happen.

Apple-get off your *** and fix this - started about two weeks ago.

I am running ios 12.4.1

I have both gmail and yahoo configured on my iPhone (13.1.3), my iPad (12.4.2), and Mac (10.14.6). I only have this issue for sent items for my yahoo account. Emails sent from my gmail account show as read in my sent items (compared to unread in my yahoo sent items).

I've tested sending emails from all three, and especially for iPad and iPhone which are running different versions of iOS. The issue is consistent.

I'm confident this is a Yahoo issue.

I'll focus on those forums for a solution now.

I have been having this same issue for weeks and all signs are point to it being an Apple issue. I am using a Yahoo IMAP account and, like most, am having any email I send from my Mac, iPhone or iPad using this account end up in the Sent folder as unread. Any mail that originates from Yahoo's online mail app, however, appears in the Sent folder normally as read. I have been working with Apple support for over a week and they believe that there is a setting somewhere in my user profile that is likely causing this. We created a test User Profile on my Mac, sent some test emails and the problem did not occur. This leads them to believe that the issue lies somewhere in a setting or problem within the User Profile - possible as a result of the recent Catalina update. The problem now is that they cannot pinpoint whatever is actually causing this.

Probably Yahoo is syncing the message back to your phone, so from the phone's perspective it is a new message. The fact that it's some messages is probably a race (timing) condition.

You might want to consider using the Yahoo mail app instead.

And AOL/yahoo has had a lot of mail problems in the past few weeks. There have been extensive delays. When you read a message that fact gets sent to the server, which then updates your phone. So it doesn’t actually get marked as read until that round trip is completed.

I have the same issue - it started a couple of weeks ago... I've spoken to Apple and they say it must be a Yahoo issue, as their website shows the same messages as unread and Apple Mail only shows a copy of what's on the server. I have been unable to reach Yahoo for help (no email or form whatsoever...).

The idea of the user profile being the source of the issue is interesting, but that does not explain why the issue happens from Galaxy phones, and from Thunderbird. It might be that there is an option in the user profile which can change this behavior, but I do not believe it is the cause. The root cause I think is in Yahoo, and they must have changed some behavior on their side.

IMO - It should be fixed by Yahoo as they seem to be the only ones affected. If apple introduces a setting to address it, that's only a solution for Apple, but not for everyone else who is affected.

It has only started to occur in the last few weeks. In addition, on checking on my wife's iPad Air, she too has the same issue, and again only in the last few weeks, more or less concurrent with the various updates.

I'm having the same issue with my Yahoo account. Sent messages get marked as unread. I've rebuilt and reindexed all Yahoo mailboxes and problem persists. Seemed to start with recent Catalina update.

I have been having this issue as well for approximately the same time frame.

It occurs whether messages are sent via iPhone mail or Thunderbird mail client on my Windows PC, though not if sent from Yahoo's web client. I have to surmise this is a Yahoo issue with IMAP.

I have this problem too.

It is especially annoying because I receive notifications for new mail and now I get a notification every time I send a message.

It seemed to start around the time I installed Catalina (Nov 2019) so I assumed it was an Apple problem. But then I logged into a Yahoo Mail account directly from their website (an account that was not set up on Apple Mail) and sent a test message. It immediately appeared in Yahoo’s sent mail folder as unread. So I believe this is a recent Yahoo problem and has nothing to do with Apple.

It’s not just yahoo. I have AOL and it’s driving me crazy. I’ve deleted my account, added it back and nothing is fixing it. It has to be an Apple issue. I have 3 AOL accounts and it’s only occurring on one of them

I am running an ancient MBP (mid-2009) with El Capitan, and I am having the same issue with the yahoo email (and not gmail, exchange, etc.). So, I don't see that is a Catalina related issue. Will be happy to see some resolution from wherever it comes.
