Siri not working with Apple music

i have an Apple music subscription. When I search for music, it plays. However, when I ask Siri to play something new that isn’t downloaded she says “I’m sorry, I can’t find [name of song] in your library”. All my Siri settings seem to allow for this so I can’t figure out why it’s happening.

Hello Abrunner4,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble with using Siri to play music. I'd be happy to provide a few steps that may help.

First, make sure your iPhone is fully updated: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Be sure to have a current back up prior to updating.

Next, navigate to Settings > Siri & Search > Music. Make sure that all options are enabled there.

If you're still having trouble, reply back with whether or not this happens while using Wi-Fi, cellular data, or both.

Take care.

I’m having a similar issue. Siri won’t do anything associated with Apple Music. Won’t play a song, or even shuffle what is currently playing. Happens on Cellular & WiFi. I contacted Apple Support, and spent hours resetting all the settings, and restoring the phone. Still have the issue. Currently waiting until Monday to do diagnostics with a senior advisor.

I found a resolution to this today with the help of an Apple employee in a Facebook group. Turns out there is corrupted user data somewhere, that is causing the issue. If you restore your phone, and set up as a new device, it works. You’ll have to redownload all your apps, but Siri will work with Apple Music again. All your other info, pics, messages, etc. will download from iCloud, so make sure you backup to iCloud before restoring.

This issue is found in latest iOS versions. This issue is not seen in iPhone 5s with iOS 12.4.1 version but seen on iPhone Xs Max with iOS 13.2 version.

The issue is,

For iPhone without iTunes subscription

Siri command to access Music

"Play Album <Album name>" ~ Works fine

"Play Artist <Artist name>" ~ Works fine

"Play Song <Song name>" ~ Doesn't Work and it says “I’m sorry, I can’t find <Song name> in your library”.

For iPhone with iTunes subscription

Siri command to access Music

"Play Album <Album name>" ~ Works fine

"Play Artist <Artist name>" ~ Works fine

"Play Song <Song name>" ~ Searches for the songs in iTunes and plays from it. But it does not play the local music.

I don’t know it then. After I logged out the account in App Store, Apple music’s account signed out too and then siri works on the apple music but only plays music purchased in iTunes. But at least it worked. Then I logged in again, re-downloading the music, and tried siri with apple music. It didn’t have the same issue anymore.
