Flexgate Display Issue on Macbook Pro Late 2016 15inch

Hello apple community!

Last month I started having a backlight issue on my Mac. College had just started, and it became hard to make time to go to the apple store. However, yesterday my Mac just went black when ever I extended past a certain angle. This was frustrating as I could not work well with my laptop.

Therefore I go to the apple store in downtown Palo Alto. Instantly the representative knew what the issue was and was like “Okay this issue is common on the macbook pros, don't worry Apple has a program that repairs it for free”. Little did he and I know that that program only covers the 13inch Macs. He was surprised since he said his coworkers have seen this issue a lot for 15inches also. The cost was turning out to be $680+ tax...

No thank you, broke college student cant afford that right now.

Anyways, I would like to see any other users who have experience this issue and what steps did you take to make your mac work. Right now im just thinking of getting an usb c to hdmi converter and connected to my TV so I can work like that.

Thanks!

Fernando L.

All you can do is take it in and have it repaired.

At this time, there is no Service Program for this 15" issue of the projector cable, affecting 2016/2017 MBP.

Service Program—

Typically in the past if Apple does release a Service Program, they have offered a refund for out of pocket expense parts & labor for the exact issue covered.

Service Programs are triggered by the percentage of all MBP of this spec vs the number of failures documented.

We are not privy to this %, or have any more insight.
