Can’t install iMovie

I just got a MacBook Pro and I can’t install iMovie. I did the upgrade that was available and have Mojave. This is what pop up said:

Cant be installed on Macintosh HD OS X version 10.12 or later is required.

What can can I do to fix this?

Yes, unfortunately you must at least be running Sierra to download the current iMovie version. However, you said in your initial post that you had Mojave. So you should be able to download current iMovie 10.1.12 with no problem. Log in to the online app store, sign in, and do a search for iMovie 10. When you find the iMovie app see if you can download it.

Sorry that you are unable to download iMovie 10. iMovie 9 is no longer available either.

If you want at least some version of iMovie you can try downloading this hacked (unofficial) version iMovie 6.5.1.

iMovie 6 is actually an excellent program. The above version, though unofficial, is purported to be good by several people on this forum who have used it.
