Apple lossless codec is creating a .m4a file in iTunes

Hi All,

I have the import settings on iTunes to Apple Lossless Encoder for importing a CD. But after importing, the files are .m4a which is lossy. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

No, AAC and Apple Lossless files both use the .m4a file extension. If you ask iTunes to rip or convert to MP3 it will create a file with a .mp3 extension.

you are doing nothing wrong. Inspect the file size. If each music file is say 20 megs or higher then its lossless. AAC is going to be about 12 megs or so....

Just checked. They are all 20 meg and over. So the only file that iTunes can create is .m4a regardless of the codec? Thanks!
