I HAVE THE RESOLUTION. after experiencing this issue myself where the apple watch is requesting a password and you enter the password from your apple phone but then never receive the verification code this is what you need to do. Yes, It is because many of us have 2 apple IDs (1 for personal associated for you only "1st ID" and other possibly used for itunes and app store for family "2nd ID"). On a device (you decide) .. sign out of the apple id associated with your personal and sign into the one that the APPLE WATCH is asking for. This is a temporary sign out ... after you get the verification code to the 2nd ID then you can sign back in using the 1st ID. I have multiple devices so I signed out and back in using a secondary phone that I have. But you can do this on an IPAD or Macbook also. I would not do this on your primary phone. Once you sign in with the 2nd iD .... go through the verification steps on the WATCH again. This will now send the verification code to the device you used to sign into with the "2nd ID". Get that verification code, use it to verify the watch. Then go to the app store icon on the WATCH and choose any free app to download and make sure it downloads. Wait 5 minutes to confirm that you are no longer receiving this message on the watch anymore and then go back to that device you selected to now SIGN OUT using the 2nd ID and sign back in with the 1st ID.

These steps should save you 2 hours on the phone with TIER 2 APPLE Support.

TIER 1 apple support will not be able to fix this issue. If you call apple support, you need to specifically request TIER 2 support.

Bingo! That is exactly right. If your iCloud is one account ("personal"), and your iTunes/APP Store is another (like a "family" account), what's happening is that now you can access the App Store right from your watch, so of course its asking for password and verification code (you can choose which account to use for iCloud and which account to use for App Store in the Watch App settings). But if you're like me, you don't actually have a device that's signed into iCloud USING THE ITUNES/App Store "family" account, so when Apple Watch sends a verification code, there no device that can receive it because they are all signed into the "personal" account. This is why generating a code from Password & Security doesn't work, because that code is associated with the iCloud "personal" account, not the App Store "family" account.

TRY THIS FIRST: The steps ebony_eyes laid out should work, however, this worked for me and may be faster: First, on my Apple Watch, I enter password and clicked "send verification code". Then I signed out out the App Store (Signed into my "family" account) on my phone (on the actual phone settings, not the Apple Watch settings), then signed into the App Store with my "personal" account, then signed out again and resigned in back with my original "family" account. As soon as I signed back in with my "family" account I got a verification code pop up and was able to enter that into the watch.

Good luck!

Happy to report that I've solved this issue, at least for my situation (Apple Watch keeps asking for a password for an old or unused Apple ID, and after entering the password, prompts for an authorization code from "other devices running iOS 9...", but that code never arrives to those other devices).

This requires that you know the password or are able to reset the password. If you're seeing a popup for someone else's Apple ID or one that you no longer have access to, you may need to call Apple as that's a different problem altogether.

My particular situation involves an old Apple ID that I use only occasionally on the App Store in the country where I currently reside when an app isn't available on the US Store. I don't have this Apple ID set up as a primary or secondary ID on any device. And that's exactly what I needed to do to fix the annoying popup on my Apple Watch: set it up on a Mac, iPad or iPhone as a secondary Apple ID. After that's done, you'll get the prompt to allow the sign-in on your Apple Watch (via a code or a simple "allow" prompt), and the popups will stop.

To do this on an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account > iCloud. Enter the Apple ID that's bugging your Watch followed by the password. Then give it a moment to sync with the iCloud server and you're done. The next time the prompt pops up on your Apple Watch, you should be able to get through the password entry and end the nagging.

On a Mac, it's System Preferences > Internet Accounts > iCloud.

After you get through the password entry on your Watch and are satisfied that it's not coming back, you can go back in and delete the old Apple ID account from your device, or just leave it there and turn off whichever iCloud elements (notes, contacts, etc) you don't want to use (that way it'll be ready to go should the problem recur).

Again, this will only work if you know the password. If not, you need to resolve that first. If it's your old Apple ID and you don't know the security questions, it might be possible to get past that step by resetting the questions or setting up two-factor auth. If it's someone else's Apple ID, most likely you have an app that was downloaded using that ID somewhere on your device that you bought or inherited from them. So you can try to track the app down, and maybe that alone will stop the incessant prompts on your Watch.

I hope this can help everyone work around the annoying bug.

Here is the fix!

  1. Open your Apple Watch app on your phone and go to “My Watch
  2. Go to Settings/General & turn off Automatic App Install.
  3. Now go back to “My Watch” and scroll to the bottom to see “Available Apps”.
  4. Any apps you see that are trying to install are the culprits causing the notifications!
  5. Delete those apps from your phone, and if necessary reinstall them with your Apple ID used currently.
  6. Turn Automatic App Install back on if necessary.

You now won't receive any more of those annoying notifications!

(I’ve just realised I posted with an older profile above. This is from the current profile) =)

I see there are many different experiences, some people easily fixed the issue where others are still struggling.

Also, this seems to be mostly linked to people who at some point had more than one Apple ID.

I’ll try and suggest a “cleanup” process including Apple ID, watch and other devices under your Apple ID.

BACKUP

Before you begin, make sure your important data is backed up to iCloud, Finder/iTunes or another method of your preference.

In case you have issues with any of the following steps and a restore/reinstall is needed, you might loose any data that hasn’t been backed up.

PART I - Manage your Apple ID down to ONE ACCOUNT ONLY.

  1. IF YOU HAVE/HAD MULTIPLE IDs: you will need to choose only ONE Apple ID to be your account. Paid apps/services from a previous Apple ID will need to be purchased again on your current Apple ID as they’re not transferable. Free apps/services will be need to be downloaded again on your current Apple ID.
  2. Make sure your Apple ID password is up to date. Go to https://appleid.apple.com/ - if your login is successful, you’re good to go. Otherwise there’s a link on that same page if you have forgotten Apple ID or password so you can sort it out.
  3. OPTIONAL: I’d recommend signing out of iCloud/app store on all your devices, including old ones if you still have any, so you prevent conflicts with pre-existing logins. It is a clean slate that might prove helpful. Then sign back in with your CURRENT Apple ID and go to step 4 below.
  4. Follow this link to update all your Apple ID related accounts.
  5. Contact Apple Support if you have any issues with the steps above.

PART II - Manage your devices.

  1. Unpair your watch from your iPhone. Make sure both devices are on charge, nearby each other and that the iPhone is connected to WiFi with Bluetooth on.
  2. Install any updates pending on your iPhone.
  3. OPTIONAL: if you want a sure fire solution, you could erase and reinstall iOS on your iPhone, set it up as new (without restoring your backup) and then syncing back your iCloud data and re-downloading your apps from the App Store. This might be time consuming but also gives your device a clean slate to start from, preventing potential conflicts from your backup. Then go to step 4 below.
  4. Check that the watch has been removed from your Find My app. If you still see your watch there, erase it from Find My or iCloud.com.
  5. Turn off all your devices.
  6. Turn your iPhone back on, make sure it’s on WiFi with Bluetooth on and connected to charger.
  7. Finally, pair your Apple Watch again.

Hope this helps,

Vicko

I fought this problem for a week. Finally I got it. The watch prompts for your apple password. On the watch tap Password and them the little keyboard on the watch. At the exact same time that you tap the keyboard on the watch, your phone prompts you for action (it happens so fast I can't ever tell you what it said) - be ready to tap the prompt on you phone. If you catch it in time, the phone brings up a place to enter the password. I entered my Apple app store/itunes password. That was what it wanted. I hope it works for you too!

It is not in settings. You have to enter it in in the box that pops up on the phone when you touch the little keyboard (Picture) on the watch. You have to be fast !

This was a frustrating thing for me. I found it by watching my phone to see what would flash up on the phone when I would hit the little keyboard on the watch. I finally saw that it was an entry box. It flashes on the phone screen so fast I could not even read it, then it goes away! So do this: put your: iphone in your lap where you can quickly touch the box that will flash at the top of the phone screen. Follow the prompts on the watch to get to that PASSWORD then KEYBOARD. When you tap that little KEYBOARD on your watch your phone opens up a box for you to enter the password. You have to be fast. When you finally get to that point and you tap the box on your iphone, a keyboard will pop up, on the phone, for you to enter your password. The first time I did it I entered my itunes apple store password. That worked for about a day. Then when it asked again the next day I entered my iCloud password, because I have them separate for some reason... Anyway once I had entered them both I was done. It never asked me for the password again.

Try this:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on the Apple Watch and go to “General.”
  2. Scroll down and choose “Reset”.
  3. Tap on “Erase All Content and Settings”.
  4. Enter the passcode for the Apple Watch.
  5. Scroll down and confirm you wish to reset the Apple Watch and erase all data from the device.
  6. Make sure that you have at least iOS 8.2 installed on your iPhone.
  7. Fully charge your Apple Watch.
  8. Use the Apple Watch app on your iPhone to setup your Apple Watch.

Hi All;

As of recent 13.6.1- I have a sole watch 3 38mm. The Updates for me on the watch watch did the same thing... Looping for password-the Keyboard directs you to your phone yet, When I went into my general>Apple ID> it was grayed out, couldn’t do anything.

MY ANSWER that worked for me-On your watch use the (freestyle-hand writing option) then enter your password (go slow it’s not forgiving) - you will then receive your verification code and you are good to go.

Hope this helps

  1. You can enter the password by A) Tapping on the watch face - It gives you two options. One looks like a keyboard which very likely will not work for you and a second option. B) Tap on the second option (it is the one that does not look like a keyboard C) Draw your password letter by letter on the watch face. Your watch will display the character that it believes you entered, you have the option of erasing it if it is wrong. D) When you have finished entering you password, tap the enter icon.
  2. However that procedure is every bit as tedious as it sounds. Yes it works, but you can make your watch stop asking you for your password. What you need to do is deregister your watch. And, then go through the initial registration procedure (as if you just bought your watch) all over again. Yes, this is also annoying, but it will fix your problem.
