I have the apple watch version 4 or what eve the newest one is, and it keeps asking me for my apple ID even if I just put it in. I went into settings and there is no option to enter my password to reset. How do I fix this?

(I’ve just realised I posted with an older profile above. This is from the current profile) =)

I see there are many different experiences, some people easily fixed the issue where others are still struggling.

Also, this seems to be mostly linked to people who at some point had more than one Apple ID.

I’ll try and suggest a “cleanup” process including Apple ID, watch and other devices under your Apple ID.

BACKUP

Before you begin, make sure your important data is backed up to iCloud, Finder/iTunes or another method of your preference.

In case you have issues with any of the following steps and a restore/reinstall is needed, you might loose any data that hasn’t been backed up.

PART I - Manage your Apple ID down to ONE ACCOUNT ONLY.

  1. IF YOU HAVE/HAD MULTIPLE IDs: you will need to choose only ONE Apple ID to be your account. Paid apps/services from a previous Apple ID will need to be purchased again on your current Apple ID as they’re not transferable. Free apps/services will be need to be downloaded again on your current Apple ID.
  2. Make sure your Apple ID password is up to date. Go to https://appleid.apple.com/ - if your login is successful, you’re good to go. Otherwise there’s a link on that same page if you have forgotten Apple ID or password so you can sort it out.
  3. OPTIONAL: I’d recommend signing out of iCloud/app store on all your devices, including old ones if you still have any, so you prevent conflicts with pre-existing logins. It is a clean slate that might prove helpful. Then sign back in with your CURRENT Apple ID and go to step 4 below.
  4. Follow this link to update all your Apple ID related accounts.
  5. Contact Apple Support if you have any issues with the steps above.

PART II - Manage your devices.

  1. Unpair your watch from your iPhone. Make sure both devices are on charge, nearby each other and that the iPhone is connected to WiFi with Bluetooth on.
  2. Install any updates pending on your iPhone.
  3. OPTIONAL: if you want a sure fire solution, you could erase and reinstall iOS on your iPhone, set it up as new (without restoring your backup) and then syncing back your iCloud data and re-downloading your apps from the App Store. This might be time consuming but also gives your device a clean slate to start from, preventing potential conflicts from your backup. Then go to step 4 below.
  4. Check that the watch has been removed from your Find My app. If you still see your watch there, erase it from Find My or iCloud.com.
  5. Turn off all your devices.
  6. Turn your iPhone back on, make sure it’s on WiFi with Bluetooth on and connected to charger.
  7. Finally, pair your Apple Watch again.

Hope this helps,

Vicko

I had same issue and so far, my watch is not asking for password anymore. I had 2 factor verification and that prevent me to log in properly.

  1. from phone, signed out apple id that I was using.
  2. log in (using phone) apple id which apple watch is asking password for.
  3. go to watch app from the phone and go general -> apple ID
  4. there should be itune/app login id matching apple id watch is asking password for.
  5. sign in using watch app

This should stop asking password for different apple id.

I switched back to apple ID that I was using before.

My watch stop asking for password for now.

Hope this help others.

Here is the fix!

  1. Open your Apple Watch app on your phone and go to “My Watch
  2. Go to Settings/General & turn off Automatic App Install.
  3. Now go back to “My Watch” and scroll to the bottom to see “Available Apps”.
  4. Any apps you see that are trying to install are the culprits causing the notifications!
  5. Delete those apps from your phone, and if necessary reinstall them with your Apple ID used currently.
  6. Turn Automatic App Install back on if necessary.

You now won't receive any more of those annoying notifications!

  1. You can enter the password by A) Tapping on the watch face - It gives you two options. One looks like a keyboard which very likely will not work for you and a second option. B) Tap on the second option (it is the one that does not look like a keyboard C) Draw your password letter by letter on the watch face. Your watch will display the character that it believes you entered, you have the option of erasing it if it is wrong. D) When you have finished entering you password, tap the enter icon.
  2. However that procedure is every bit as tedious as it sounds. Yes it works, but you can make your watch stop asking you for your password. What you need to do is deregister your watch. And, then go through the initial registration procedure (as if you just bought your watch) all over again. Yes, this is also annoying, but it will fix your problem.

Try this:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on the Apple Watch and go to “General.”
  2. Scroll down and choose “Reset”.
  3. Tap on “Erase All Content and Settings”.
  4. Enter the passcode for the Apple Watch.
  5. Scroll down and confirm you wish to reset the Apple Watch and erase all data from the device.
  6. Make sure that you have at least iOS 8.2 installed on your iPhone.
  7. Fully charge your Apple Watch.
  8. Use the Apple Watch app on your iPhone to setup your Apple Watch.

My issue is definitely connected to wifi somehow as if I go away from our wifi or like today I was the the neighbours, the wifi was too weak so I turned if off for about an hour or so, turned it back on at home. Later that day the first time I used my watch hey presto the Apple ID & once I cancel it appears on my phone then I tap not now which seems to stop it.

The problem is I can’t log in anywhere to this ID as it’s no longer valid, it is an old I’d font used since about 2012 on an iPod.

made a new ID when I bought my first iPhone in 2013.

I did discover an LP I bought with that old ID which may be triggering the prompt, I don’t want to pay for it again. 😢

MuldunE is on to something in May 22, 2020 2:20PM response!

• It became my solution to not being able to see any iPhone Keyboard to re-enter my Apple ID Password on my (Series 4) Apple Watch for several days (hours of fruitless searching)!

• Go to iPhone(8 in my case)> Settings > Notifications > Apple Watch Keyboard [Banners]. Then:

* Select (check off each circle) of all 3 of the ALERTS [Lock Screen, Notification Center, & Banners]

* Select Banner Style “Persistent” [rather than “Temporary”]

* “Sounds” can be On (green next to white circle selector) or Off.

* Set “Show Previews” to Always

* Set “Notification Grouping” to Automatic

Other options might work - or not - but this combination gave me immediate success. I can turn them off / change them later on. I hope this works for others, too!

I seem have the same problem. I think you are correct. Somehow many years ago, I created an account with another non-Apple email. But later I created an icloud account an Apple email. Now I am getting a message to sign in to icloud to the non-Apple email.

I don't even have an icloud account with that email.

Gee, something inside of me tells me that this isn't a solution but a temporary fix until Apple realizes that is it ******* OFF loyal watch owners. I don't really give a **** about security if it impedes my use of the device. I know that you are just like me, and the fact that you had the patience to sit on the phone with these folks is way beyond the call of duty. Anyway, this is a problem that Apple created and it has to fix it, and I am sorry you had to go through the pain. I am sure I speak for others in thanking you for this hacky solution as it is better than nothing.
