I have the apple watch version 4 or what eve the newest one is, and it keeps asking me for my apple ID even if I just put it in. I went into settings and there is no option to enter my password to reset. How do I fix this?

It was very frustrating. The only way I got around the issue was signing into the account, that matched the account my watch was asking me to sign in to, on an iPad (to complete the verification process).

I do not know a workaround for someone without access to another Apple device, and the message seems a bit random from the varying messages from others in this thread.

You can’t sign out of the Apple Watch because the Apple Pay security is tied to the account to which you signed in to when setting up the watch initially.

There is definitely an underlying issue with the new watch App Store and legacy apps and the Ids that we’re used to download them.

Now it just needs to get fixed.

I’m having the same problem it keeps requesting the Apple ID twice what’s a couple of seconds then request it twice again about 60 times. I’m using voice-over as I’m legally blind and I can’t get the password in the watch app will not let me put the password in or re-sign into the Apple ID The watch app is showing the two Apple ID is that I have them so I can’t even select them in the watch app itself. This is got to be a program bug that Apple have really screwed up this time

The combination of your advice and ebony_eyes has solved my problem.

I got my spare iPad, logged out of my primary iCloud account and then logged in to iCloud using my iTunes Store ID. This ID is very old and did not have an iCloud account linked to it so I created that. I then tried to install an app on the Watch, got the Verification message, entered my password and the alert and number appeared on my iPad. Job done!

It is important to make sure that your store ID does have an iCloud account as well even if you never use it again.

Many thanks.

I posted this earlier, but this may help:

TRY THIS FIRST: First, on my Apple Watch, at the prompt I enter my "family" account password and clicked "send verification code". Then I signed out of the App Store (Signed into my "family" account) on my phone (on the actual phone settings, not the Apple Watch settings), then signed into the App Store with my "personal" account, then signed out again and resigned in back with my original "family" account. As soon as I signed back in with my "family" account I got a verification code pop up and was able to enter that into the watch.

WHY THIS IS HAPPENING: If your iCloud is one account ("personal"), and your iTunes/APP Store is another (like a "family" account), what's happening is that now you can access the App Store right from your watch (now its its own device), so its asking for password and verification code (you can choose which account to use for iCloud and which account to use for App Store in the Watch App settings). But if you're like me, you don't actually have a device that's signed into iCloud USING THE ITUNES/App Store "family" account, so when Apple Watch sends a verification code for the "family" account, there is no device that can receive it because they are all signed into the "personal" account. This is why generating a code from Password & Security doesn't work, because that code is associated with the iCloud "personal" account, not the App Store "family" account.

ANOTHER SOLUTION: Use an iPad or Mac and sign into iCloud using the "family" account. You could use your phone too but that's a pain. Once you sign into the iPad or Mac, you will now be able to receive verification codes from the "family" account on this device.

Good luck!

I changed the password for my apple id on my iPad, iPhone, and Mac laptop. My iwatch 3 with cellular keeps asking me for my apple id and also for a verification code, at least some of the time. I do it and a little later, it asks again. How do I fix this issue? I don't have multiple apple ids. I didn't have this problem until I changed my apple id password.

I have had the same issue as well since upgrading my watch. I solved it today. I also have 2 different apple IDs. I went to the app store on the watch. I chose a free app. Pressed Get and then was asked for my password. I have a work iPhone so I logged out with my primary account and logged back in with the secondary. Then I went back to the watch selected password. Entered the password on my primary iPhone and then received the verification code on the work iPhone. It took the code downloaded the app and no messages since and its been about 6 hours.

This happened to me when I subscribed to Apple Music and cancelled but I still had playlists with Apple Music only songs on them syncing to my Apple Watch. I added a filter to all my smart playlists to remove Apple Music items (Cloud Status is not Apple Music) and disabled Heavy Rotation in the Watch App under Music.

I haven't seen the password prompt again since (fingers crossed).
