I HAVE THE RESOLUTION. after experiencing this issue myself where the apple watch is requesting a password and you enter the password from your apple phone but then never receive the verification code this is what you need to do. Yes, It is because many of us have 2 apple IDs (1 for personal associated for you only "1st ID" and other possibly used for itunes and app store for family "2nd ID"). On a device (you decide) .. sign out of the apple id associated with your personal and sign into the one that the APPLE WATCH is asking for. This is a temporary sign out ... after you get the verification code to the 2nd ID then you can sign back in using the 1st ID. I have multiple devices so I signed out and back in using a secondary phone that I have. But you can do this on an IPAD or Macbook also. I would not do this on your primary phone. Once you sign in with the 2nd iD .... go through the verification steps on the WATCH again. This will now send the verification code to the device you used to sign into with the "2nd ID". Get that verification code, use it to verify the watch. Then go to the app store icon on the WATCH and choose any free app to download and make sure it downloads. Wait 5 minutes to confirm that you are no longer receiving this message on the watch anymore and then go back to that device you selected to now SIGN OUT using the 2nd ID and sign back in with the 1st ID.
These steps should save you 2 hours on the phone with TIER 2 APPLE Support.
TIER 1 apple support will not be able to fix this issue. If you call apple support, you need to specifically request TIER 2 support.
Be blessed and pay it forward!
I tried that but the answer was actually that my two phase authentication had been turned off on my phone so I put that back on and but it in.. no more problems. thanks!
This suggestion actually worked. Just hold down both side buttons on your watch and it will reset itself. Many thanks
My same issue solved by unpairing my watch.Changing Appleid.then pair again. Issue solved for me
Try unpairing the watch with your phone and pair it again. So far it’s working for me. Good luck!
Good afternoon I was having the same problem, and what I had to do is Unpair my Apple Watch with my iPhone and pairing back again. That fixed the problem. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem. I unpaired my watch and repaired it. That seems to work.
It was very frustrating. The only way I got around the issue was signing into the account, that matched the account my watch was asking me to sign in to, on an iPad (to complete the verification process).
I do not know a workaround for someone without access to another Apple device, and the message seems a bit random from the varying messages from others in this thread.
You can’t sign out of the Apple Watch because the Apple Pay security is tied to the account to which you signed in to when setting up the watch initially.
There is definitely an underlying issue with the new watch App Store and legacy apps and the Ids that we’re used to download them.
Now it just needs to get fixed.
First go to the Watch app at your phone and enter your apple id through the settings. After this your watch will ask one more time to enter apple id and when you enter your id it will verify through your watch app settings. After these steps, you shouldn’t get any more same notification.
OMG THANK YOU HELLSBELLES! This answer worked for me. I don't have another ios device to log in with other account (to receive the code for the ID the watch wants). This solution worked for me. Two weeks of solid frustration solved in 30 seconds. THANK YOU!
THIS WORKED FOR ME: After literally a month and a half of stress and never being able to see what time it is, here it is:
Step 1: Put in your password on the watch - if the keyboard does not work, you will have to draw the letters.
Step 2: Go to your iPhone: settings>tapped my name on top>password & security> Get Verification code.
Step 3: This six digit code is then entered on the watch after it asks for a code. Success
Onward!
Just got off the phone with a wonderful senior Apple support guy, Brad. Turns out the watch kept asking for my password (with no way apparent to enter it) because one of my apps, Messenger, wasn't loading. Once we figured that out, I was able (with help) to use "Scribble" to enter my Apple ID password (cool but not intuitive), Messenger loaded, and voila! Problem solved.
Sounds like you have an app that is using the family ID
Try removing all apps from your watch then install them one by one to find the app in question.
Install one app then active it to see if it asks for a password.
If all good, install the next one, active it to see, and then so on till you find the app that is asking for the password.
An iCloud ID is and Apple ID. So is your iTunes ID. They're both Apple IDs, just used for different purposes in your case (and mine). What you need to do is sign into that iTunes Apple ID under Settings > Passwords & Accounts (iPhone) or System Preferences > Internet Accounts (Mac), and then wait for the popup again. Enter your password, authenticate with a code, and the annoyances will stop.
I seem to have fixed this problem on my watch. For me it was an app that hadn’t finished installing. The website I consulted had several options to try.

Do take a look. It says iPhone in the link but in my case it was my watch that had the problem.
I haven’t had this issue for weeks now. I deleted any apps (I have a lot 🥴) that showed the cloud with arrow because it won’t update so is probably old & obsolete. The email address that previously popped up was an old one that was for an iPod (I also reset the iPod) & the ID is no longer valid (not used since 2012) so couldn’t sign in anyway. But the problem has stopped.
I see there’s now 19 pages of comments. I’m not sure what I did right but I have not had this happen for several weeks now.
My watch was asking me to sign into an obsolete Apple ID, it was one I used on an old iPod dating back to about 2012. I couldn’t even sign in to Apple on the website with it as I no longer remembered the password & when I tried to reset password I got the error message ‘this Apple ID is not valid’
The main things I did was reset the iPod to factory settings & deleted all the apps on my iphone that wouldn’t update, old/obsolete apps show a cloud with an arrow.
i think I’ve had 2 iOS updates since it stopped the password request & it hasn’t come back, so yay!
Maybe these solutions could help someone else 😊
