Siri: Speech “To The Power Of” *HELP ME*

omg I so know what you are talking about. Months ago I tried searching on google for this problem and NOBODY was talking about it. I tried creating a reddit post and nobody responded. Apparantly using the two fingers drag to have the phone read news articles to you isn't as common a practice as I thought.

There are some articles where it says "to the power of" more than it says the actual words -- its NOT just for em-dashes and quotations. Often just the word "and" causes it to proc. Earlier today I had a laugh when it for some reason read "Vladimir Putin" as "Vlad- to the power of -meer Putin". -- yes it split the word Vladimir in half just because its perverted, machine brain thought 'Hey this sure is an appropriate place to insert another "to the power of" in for no reason'.

I am so happy to find this thread and realize I am not alone.

I found a solution for this: go to settings -> accessibility -> spoken content -> pronunciations and make two new entries. One for – and one for —. In each, set the pronunciation to - (that’s just a Hyphen). Voila. No more “to the power of”

I am having the same issue and am working with support now. So far, it's stumped them. The only voice that i've found that doesn't do it is Fred who sounds absolutely atrocious--nearly unusable.

This also occurs when using Speak Screen or selecting paragraphs to speak in news articles that contain the em dash. Very irritating.

The em dash in news articles are also read as “to the power of” when using Speak screen or selecting paragraphs to be spoken. Can’t change the email dash in such articles.

I will say that the newest update did help me. So there's that.

This fix does not help for documents or website you did not create, so what then?

The update to 13.1.1 did not fix my issue. When reading text with “...” I still get “To the power of”. I am sad right now :( for us folks who use it to text to speech in the Kindle app

reading backwards on this thread. Ok I am installing updates.

This is very frustrating when having Siri read kindle books while I drive. It is strange that it just started. What number did you call for Tech support. I’ll call too.
