Mac Mail Displaying Gibberish

Mac Mail randomly displays gibberish rather than the body of an email and frequently aborts for no apparent reason. I am running macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave) and Mail version 12.4. Both situations seem to have gotten more frequent as time moves on. I cannot track the problems back to any specific upgrades of the OS or Mail.

Thank you, Allen A. I have already contacted Apple Support and 4.5 hours later, emails seem to be displaying properly. BUT Mail still aborts for no apparent reason. I might be drafting a new email, replying to an email, or not even using the app, and POOF it's gone and I get a screen asking if I want to bring it up again and send errors to Apple - which I do. Additionally, when I log into iCloud and try to view mail there, I get an error. So now I've been escalated to the technical staff and have a follow-up scheduled on Thursday.

This is getting old rather quickly...

Hey jczarny1,

I can appreciate why emails displaying weird characters would be concerning. Have a look here and try both recommended troubleshooting steps: If emails aren’t displayed or look strange in Mail on Mac - Apple Support. If that doesn't seem to do anything, use this link to contact Apple Support directly: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support.

Cheers!
