Stage Light effect on MacBook Pro 2016

My MacBook Pro 2016 model just developed the "Stage Light" effect at the bottom of the screen. This clearly seems to be a defect in the computer, and seems like a common issue. What should I do?

If it is a 2016 13-inch, do this:


13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program - Apple Support


This is a no-charge repair service Apple instituted for the models listed in that article.
