wifi issues with Iphone 11 Pro Max

Hi! I dont know what is happening with the new iphone 11 ( as I have other iphones updated and there is nor issue with them) but as I connect to the wifi ( 802.1x protocol), after a certain time the conection is lost. There is wifi icon on the iphone but there is no conecction ( no ping....). After turn on off the plane mode, is working after certain time again...same thing. With other iphone 10 with ios 13 no issues.... so I think that the problem is with the iphone 11 hardware or something new on the iphone.... some one the same problem???? thanks in advance!!

Dear PJAckson76,

I would return to the place you got your phone first: mine was Verizon and even Apple support will tell you there are bad production lots of the iPhone 11 Pro there. If you have a good relationship with them there and can get all your data copied to a new version of the phone I would do that.

If Verizon is not the option, backup your iPhone 11 Pro with iMazing on the laptop/desktop of your choice and then go to the local Apple store. Ask them to run the typical diagnostics tests on your iPhone and then run the DFU(when running DFU, all data will be wiped, so be prepared). If they still find no problems; still ask them to replace the phone entirely with a new one. They will honor this because they know they need to do so. There are bad production lots out there.

When you get the new phone, have them run all the tests on the new phone and if it checks out ok, take it home and test it on your Wi-Fi first *** BEFORE *** restoring you data to it from iMazing. If the Speedtest results give you what you need you are all set to go ahead and restore from iMazing and test again.

If your results are still inconsistent and short of your expectations, it is time to change your router settings. Come back on this site and provide a router and model number and I will provide some tips which may help your situation.

I wish you luck with this, I know how irritating it can be.....but, the above process has solved this for me.

My 11 pro max is losing WiFi connection all the time mostly using YouTube or something that sucks all the speed. It reconnects after a minute or two. I can’t manually connect cause it says WiFi isn’t available. It drives me nuts. I lost my data packet two times from those dropouts

all I can say is I reset everything and it persists

also on 13.0 it didn’t drop. So another update fxkup. Probably 13.1.3

I had the same issue when traveling.

What worked for me was playing a slow toggle both from the settings as well as from the right corner swipe middle of phone settings. I slowly as in every 30-60 seconds alternated the toggle airplane and wifi setting on and off. Another time it went down a power of and on cycle fixed it. Knock on wood, no problems since the first weeks having it.

Is your router Linksys branded? They added a new feature called Linksys Aware to their firmware recently; that new firmware was the culprit for the problems I was experiencing. Reverting to a previous firmware before this feature was introduced solved my problem, my iPhone Pro Max now experiences better connectivity and speeds than my previous iPhone X.

When I bought my iPhone 11 I thought how neat is going to be to have the new cameras with wide angle lens, faster processing and no doubt faster connectivity. I was looking forward to the experience. The camera is a great the processing time is ok but what good is it if it doesn’t connect very good to anything. 70% of the time I am on Wi-Fi so Wi-Fi is the most important connection, not the cell phone.

I’m an RF engineer, radio frequency engineer and I understand exactly what’s going on. The sensitivity of the iPhone 11‘s Wi-Fi is subpar. I thought with new chip technology and antenna technology with meta-materials they would have created a superior system over my iPhone 6 but that is clearly not the case. I can walk around my house with my iPhone 6 and never even lose one bar on my Wi-Fi connection. I can even go out of the house and still have a connection but this iPhone 11 I can’t even get out of the Wi-Fi room and step very far before the bars start going down. Halfway through the house the connection is lost.

Whoever designed the RF section for the Wi-Fi did a horrible job. Whoever did the acceptance testing lowered the qualifications significantly over the iPhone 6 and it clearly is showing. Another thing I noticed is how directional it is if I turn the phone 90° the bars go down by two and this did not happen on my iPhone 6. This explains why suddenly the connection is lost and it has to go over to cellular data causing a glitch while your standing within 20 feet of the router. Poor engineer ring is the problem.

It’s great having a camera and faster processing but it’s useless without a good connection so I’m thinking of taking my phone back as well until they fix the problem.

My apologies drewt1. I forgot to mention that your wireless router will negotiate best with one that is MIMO capable and set the 5GHz to both “n” and “ac” capable.

Most of the wireless routers we need also have to be gigabit capable so make sure you are using something like a Linksys WRT3200ACM and regardless of broadcast or non-broadcast SSID it should work well.

To test, change your local and extended SSID names. If you have unusual interference at 10 feet your extended access point (which is gigabit too?[and should not be auto-negotiate]) maybe is acting too much like a router other than an extended hub.

Just some thoughts to help you get further resolve before the 13.3.1 comes out.

i just helped a client overcome the same problem you described by separating access points and re-accessing their roles......otherwise they will step all over each other in the background and the iPhone is the slow child who gets killed playing dodgeball.

Take care.

thank you, love your metaphors! I left linksys junk along time ago, I'm using a Luxul xwr-3150 v2. Yes the two different bands have different names....but not willing to re set up and configure the routing which has been so stable and worked so well. Yes it is MIMO capable. I can deal with the 2.4 range until the fix is out.

Do you work for apple? Have they been alerted to the issue? I've sent 3 diagnostic sessions to them, wrote to Tim Cook twice, only for them to get back to me with a special Wi-Fi department to start he entire game over again.

First I have the iPhone 11 Pro, Ido not have the Max but I have exactly the same problem. I Just downloaded the new software 13.3.1 because Apple informed me via email the new software is coming out and that it will fix the problems.

The new software did not fix any of the problems for me. The connection is not even close to having the range of my iPhone 6. I can barley move halfway through a 1000 sqft house before it loses connection. I can stand in a room with a strong signal and rotate the phone 90 deg and loose the signal completely and the phone stops and tries to connect to cellular. It seems like the antenna or Broadcom chip is not performing nearly as good as the old ones. It appears to me the MIMO multiple in multiple out antenna phased array algorithm is not following my phone movement fast enough or with enough accuracy to keep a strong enough signal on the modem. This is all handled by the Broadcom chip but placement of the antenna and antenna design is key in this situation and may not be able to be fixed by a software download. Apple is no stranger to this, remember the iPhone 4 and antennagate. This appears to be very similar.

well on and on it goes, I've been working with the wifi techs at apple. No matter what we do, the iPhone 11 max pro will drop out and loose upload ability on 5 ghz network beyond 15 feet. Something to do with the FCC output power on mobile devices I am now told. Unlike iPads and Macs that can work longer range with more power. I've swapped phones, routers, everything...just a power output issue at the moment.

Remember your 5GHz on your iPhone prefers AC and switches on/off N band more often. Thus, massive re-negotiations. So, make sure your wireless router is AC capable and turn off 2.4GHz a,b,g & N. Then turn on the 5GHz with AC band ONLY and see how you do in your environment. 😁

Many people later — after they make sure that works — keep a totally separate 2.4GHz alive with g band only for their low demand communications devices like Echo Dots, Google Home or Honeywell thermostats. Separate SSID & passwords for each!

Always make sure your 2.4 & 5GHz SSIDs are differently named and have different passwords. Some people make the SSIDs & passwords all the same and thus cripple themselves with having their remote iPhone/iPad re-negotiate connections, even specified by underlying unneeded services or apps, that they don’t even need.

New iPhone 11: just like going from a Honda to a Lamborghini; higher performance, higher maintenance.
