So the app store tells me that Xcode 11 has an update. I try (3 times) to install the app from the App Store. All 3 attempts fail with the error in the subject. I restarted my MacBook between attempts 2 and 3.

So, I download Xcode 11 via Safari and install it (successfully). I restart my Mac. Xcode 11 (11A420a) starts without error and I can access my projects without error.

Apple Store still says Xcode update is available. I check for software updates from the command line:

softwareupdate --list
Software Update Tool

Finding available software
No new software available.

Now, I'm thoroughly confused. I have two questions:

1) Why are the App Store and softwareupdate out of sync?

2) How can I tell the version of Xcode I am downloading from the App Store?

Thanks for the reply. I have Xcode 11 installed (already). I had Xcode 11 installed before the App Store notified me that there was an update for Xcode. I'm wondering why the App Store is suggesting I have an update to Xcode available. I tried to install it today, via the App Store, for the 4th time, and it failed with the original topic error. I guess I'll just ignore it for now.
