WHY is the magnifying glass gone when trying to place the curser gone?

The feature is completely gone. However, it has been replaced by the ability to drag the insertion bar itself. It does take a little getting used to.

Ok so I was really not happy about this too. Then I started playing with it and found out how to function with the new update.
The old way was you long press and it turned into a cursor with a magnifying glass so you could tell where your finger was. Then you could precisely position the cursor. And if you dragged your finger down, it would hightlight a bunch of text.
The new way - If you long press it will select the word. Quick tap off the highlighted word on the text line you want to use the cursor and it will turn into a cursor. Now press on the text line and then drag your finger down just a bit so you can see the cursor. As long as you keep your finger pressed down, you can move the cursor wherever you like. But only on that line. To position the cursor on a different line, quick tap on that line to move the cursor then long press and drag your finger out of the way and move it to where you want the cursor.
You can still highlight a bunch of text but long press to switch to the highlight function and then drag. Then quick tap to switch to the cursor. Get it? Got it...good....Happy text editing on the new ios 13 :)

There are things that reach a level of perfection. We seem to be reaching that place in the curve where low level programmers are struggling to present something truly innovative so they convince their superiors that fixing things that actually work well is a way to keep their jobs.

totally agree with you. So far, there is nothing better about IOS 13 and they took away stuff like the text magnifying glass. Long time Apple user here, I am not happy with this new IOS
Agree with me about what? I'm actually happy with iOS 13 and have no issues with the changes whatsoever. So, I suspect we actually don't agree if you don't like iOS 13.

I have been an ios user from day one. The loss of the feature to implement swipe keyboard is a shame. Its nearly impossible now to select txt and letters.

I agree. I see the quest for relevance from many people. God forbid if it just works well and we can all just relax for a minute
