iPhone 11 on iOS 13 having Bluetooth connectivity issues

New iPhone 11 on iOS 13 is having Bluetooth connectivity issues.

both my daughter and I are having the similar issues.

daughters phone is an 11 64GB Purple.

mine is an 11 128GB White

Hers gets connected to her 2018 Toyota C-HR and constantly drops out. Her iPhone 7 Plus never had any issues.

I have mine connected to a Boss BT module on my motorcycle. Never had any issues with my iPhone X.

neither of our other phones we’re running iOS 13.

I updated to 13.1.2 It looks like "MOST" of my issues have been fixed with this latest update. My 2012 Scion xB stock stereo is now not dropping or getting garbled calls. My iFrogz headphones are now staying connected when paused in Pandora.

The only remaining bug(s) I'm seeing are:

  1. Hey Siri is somewhat spotty. Like the phone isn't hearing me sometimes. Very random.
  2. When placing a call via Hey Siri in my car, the bluetooth connection between my iphone 11 and my scion xB, will connect/disconnect several times before the dialing sound starts. Once the dialing starts, it stays connected.

I also have random Bluetooth dropping problems since upgrading my phone to an 11 pro. I drive a Tesla model 3 which uses Bluetooth from the phone as the primary car key. Never had any problems with my old iPhone 8 or my wife's iPhone X. However as soon as I upgraded to the 11 pro I started having problems getting into the car.

Many times I have to manually wake the screen on the 11 pro to "awaken" Bluetooth functionality. As soon as I wake the screen the car door will unlock, every single time. Before the 11 pro I never had to do this. It's almost as if iPhone 11's turn off Bluetooth altogether in order to prolong battery life. Extremely annoying.

I have a solution!

I had no issues with my older phone and once I got my brand new iPhone 11 Pro, I couldn’t hold a Bluetooth connection! We trouble shooters multiple things. Apple Care told me that my “back up may be corrupt.” So finally, as a last resort, I ERASED my phone to factory settings! Once I tested the Bluetooth in my car again, it was perfect. It held the connection! Once I tried to reload my “backup” info back into my phone, the problem came back! He was right! Somehow I had a corrupt “backup.” It sounds ridiculous, but it worked. So I have an empty phone that works perfectly on Bluetooth. Bittersweet! Save your photos and notes in iCloud. Use Google Photos if you’d like. This way you can have them easily accessible through your factory reset phone!

After the iPhone is send to Apple they did some diagnostics and returned the iPhone with the message: cannot reproduce.

Funny part is the issues are gone, it looks after 2 weeks no connection drops anymore. I believe the resetted the firmware because when I send it it was installed with the beta 13.5 just to see if that version fix the bluetooth issue, when I got it back the 13.4 was installed. So after half year frustrating phone calls in the car, not able to use watch as it should be now everything works.

It has to be a newer Android phone, like a Galaxy S20+.

Older Android phones work just as older iPhones do.

I know the following cars work perfectly with Bluetooth and an 11 Pro Max, or at least they did with mine:

  • 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser
  • 2019 Chrysler 300

Along with the following BT devices:

  • Apple AirPods Pro (firmware 2B588)
  • Denon D-M41 Micro Desktop Stereo
  • Jeff Lynne's ELO Portable Mini Speaker (Unknown manufacturer, came free with a ticket package)

It's very important that you delete all BT associations from both your phone and your device and try re-pairing, an don't forget to power cycle the device.

I had an issue where suddenly I could no longer pair with my Denon stereo, no matter what I did, until I unplugged the Denon from the wall for a few minutes and plugged it back in, and my phone paired right away.

I’ve been on the phone with Apple Support quite a few times now, and they did an MRI of my iPhone, and they DID see errors. I also did every possible thing to rule out any software issues. The last Senior I talked to told me he thought it very likely is a hardware problem.

I’ll be waiting out for iOS 13.6 to come out. If that doesn’t fix it, then I know for sure it’s a hardware issue from factory.

Since April it`s not possible to call someone for longer than 110 seconds. My whole car entertainment system (satnav, radio etc.) freezes and needs to be restartet.

Which tells you exactly where the problem is: It's a bug in your whole car entertainment system.

Why? There is no "freeze the remote end" command in the Bluetooth protocol an iPhone or any device can send.

If your in-car system is freezing and needs to be restarted it is your car's firmware that needs to be fixed.

I reached out to Apple a little over a week ago to let them know (for around the 10th time) that I have been having this issue since October 2019 and that they have already replaced my iPhone 11's and my AirPods Pros and that the issue is still (constantly) happening. They decided to (finally) escalate my claim. They sent me a brand new iPhone 11 and I set it up as a brand new device (I didn't restore from a backup). Within a few hours the issue started back up again (slowly) and after a couple days it was back to happening constantly. My issue is that the bluetooth gets interference for exactly 20 seconds where I can't understand anything and if I'm on a call they can't understand me (on a phone call, zoom call and even while listening to music/podcasts). I called Apple again to let them know that this brand new iPhone 11 that is set up as a new device is having the exact same issue. This time they assigned me a specific senior advisor (who coincidentally has been having this same issue with his iPhone) and this person took this claim very serious. This person installed a profile on my iPhone that tracked my bluetooth. I then kept track of the exact times that the problem happened and let the advisor know when he followed up the next day. He called me yesterday to let me know that the Apple Engineers have read my logs and see exactly what the issue is and are working to fix this issue in one of the next iOS software updates. I asked him if it was determined to be software and he claims that it is. I told him that I appreciate his help, but I really don't think it'll be fixed via iOS software because I have been told by Apple 9 months ago when I first called that they were aware of the bluetooth issues and were going to fix it in the next update (iOS13.1.2). He is going to follow up with me again this week and I plan to let him know of some of the comments on this thread about someone downloading iOS14 beta and it still having bluetooth issues. At this point, I feel like either the iPhone 11 bluetooth is a lemon or the iOS13 software is. I just can't believe that I have been experiencing this multiple times a day for 9 months and they still haven't figured it out.

I had been having Bluetooth issues same as all who’ve highlighted in this discussion topic since Jan’20.

last week Apple Support Senior advisor, after month’s of analysis through remote system in my phone, told me to approach service centre and handover the phone which I did last week.

yesterday I got a new replacement phone since the issue in old phone couldn’t be resolved as there was issue in motherboard.

Hopefully this new phone should work fine like it did yesterday.
