Safari 12.1.2 not working on iMac (nor is Mail)

Greetings. When I shut down and then boot up again, Safari works for maybe 3 minutes then stops responding. Repeatedly. I have checked extensions, cleared History, emptied Caches, etc., to no avail.

FYI - Firefox works with no problems, so it's not a wifi issue.

Curiously, at the same time, Mail stopped functioning as well.....shutting down or restarting has no effect.

Using OS 10.13.6

Thx

Robert

Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Safe Mode - About

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. After pasting the report in a PasteBin page, go to the top of the page, and copy the address in the URL bar. Paste that in a new reply.        Pastebin

What does Wireless Diagnostics show?

Wireless Diagnostics

Wi-FI connection drops

Wi-Fi Problems in OS X Yosemite

Wi-Fi Problems in OS X Yosemite (3)

WiFi Potential Temporary fix - Yosemite

Also try turning off Bluetooth.

If your Wi-Fi source is capable of generating a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, try that to help avoid conflicts with Bluetooth.

Greetings.

Thanks for for trying to help.

Creating new user account did not change the issues. Nor did Safe Mode.

When I powered up this morning, both Safari and Mail worked for a couple of minutes and then lost connection. Firefox continues to work just fine. ???

No antivirus program. I do hv a vpn but nothing changes when I don’t use it.

Thx

Greetings again.

I should say that it appears the issue is about the loss of connection to WiFi but only Safari and Mail hv this problem.

For example Safari will try to connect to websites- it’s not as if it is frozen. Likewise with Mail. I find it especially odd that this issue began at the same time for both apps.

But Firefox still works just fine.

Thx

Greetings.

The issues seem to have been resolved, unfortunately I can't say exactly what resolved them.

I ran Wireless Diagnostics which turned up a couple of issues, one of which seemed inaccurate (it said a certain box was checked in Proxies when it wasn't). the other was accurate and I did as it indicated (configure IPv6 under TCP/IP).

Immediately before that, I had rebooted the wireless router. I had not done this originally because, as noted before, Firefox worked fine the entire time, indicating that I did have a wifi connection. (This I still don't understand....)

At some point shortly after doing both of the above, the original problems resolved. So I'm quite happy for now....

Thank you for your help, good to know someone is out there helping to keep us sane.

Thx

robert
