Is anyone having battery issues with their S5 Watch?
Apple Watch
I have a series 4 and since the software updates, the battery drain is if I'm lucky, leaves me with 10% charge after a day at work. I've done all the things that are suggested...stop app refresh etc.
After a week with my Ti44mm, I'm afraid I'm returning mine as well. Each day this week I'm down to less than 10% before I go to bed and I am not doing anything on the watch other than getting notifications. My S4 would generally be between 50-60%. I guess I'll be going back to that.
Something is definitely wrong here.
Yes I picked up my Apple 5 series Tuesday and used it three days and I’m very disappointed with it because of battery life. I’m sending it back for my refund. I was just wearing it from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm it had 10% battery life left and I wasn’t even putting use on it
I just got off the phone with a senior advisor regarding the Apple Watch S5 battery issue, they are now aware of the issue they are no longer escalating calls because they have figured out what the issue is at this point they are waiting for a patch. I am pleased to know that there is an acknowledgment that there is a battery issue hopefully Watch OS 6.1 will be released very soon!!
Thanks for that. I sure hope they fix it soon as my replacement watch doesn't seem to be any better. Other than the battery life I'm loving my series 5 as it's definitely an upgrade from my Series 3.
Wow I hope that is true. Applied 13.1.1, rebooted, in 3:30 my watch drained 35%. That is still 10% per hour, meaning in 10 hours it will be dead. I did NOTHING on the watch, always on was on, so too all radios etc but I did not use the watch. Let's hope.
I am oddly starting to see much better battery life. I have the 44mm and my wife has the 40mm. She has seen much better battery life in general. Hers was at 56% after nearly 20 hours. Mine came off the charger at 3:45am today. It's now 10:30am and at 79% (21% lost in 6 hours 45 min) and I did a quick 2 mile run earlier.
Current configuration is: AOD on, Noise off, Modular watch face without any complications that need updates (activity is main complication), app refresh is only on for apps that I actually need it to be on for, haptic crown is off but haptic feedback is on.
My wife's watch has the same configuration but hers has only been off the charger for 2 hours. Will update with her status in a little while. I am not concerned with the noise monitor as I am never in high noise situations. It seems like something I would only turn on in the event its needed.
I am planning on doing a much longer swim later today so I'll be interested to see how the watch holds up. Also planning a long run tomorrow (2+ hours). Will update later.
I did do the phone update this morning on both phones.
It’s been horrible compared to my series 4. I turned my brightness all the way down hoping that helps or I guess I have to turn off always on display. I can’t get a full day on this watch. I’m almost dead after only 14 hours. I’m at 8%
The always on display was one of the reasons I upgraded from my Series 3 so there's no way I'm turning that off. :)
My replacement watch seems to be getting just about 16 hours compared to the previous watch where I also only ever got 14 hours out of it.
After lots and lots of testing, I am sure the battery is good.
Today my wife ran a marathon. GPS on, Music on (cellular off)... finished with 28% remaining. AOD off just to make sure there was enough battery for music. Way better than her Series 3 ever did. S3 never made it through a marathon.
I did a 9 mile run earlier today. About 1:15. GPS on, Music on, recording with a Stryd foot pod, AOD off, only 15% battery used. Since then I recharged to 100%, tracked her during the marathon, GPS, maps (from phone but notifications on watch). Fully charged after my run and used 26% in 6 hours. AOD is still off on mine, but that was a lot of usage and screen time on during those 6 hours.
Not sure what changed but all is good now on my end.
So I tested out today. With always on display and doing nothing special I would lose between 7-10% per hour. With always on off. I would lose 2-3%. That’s over a 100% and in some cases 300% difference.
My tests have been very similar. When AOD was turned off for the day, my battery drain was about 2-3%. When AOD was turned on, my drain was more than double that. Either there is a software problem or AOD isn't as efficient as Apple claimed.
I've been playing with settings all weekend, rebooting the watch, turned off the always on display, went to the dimmest setting and I'm still losing 10% an hour which seems more than average. I am only using it laying around the house as I've had a cold all week! What gives! I am ready to return this and go back to the S3.
I have a series 4. I am certain I will never know precisely why my watch was draining so fast.., paired, unpaired 3 times. I almost suspect an unannounced software fix. Checked for an update, spinning dial commenced. The thought I had was many were attempting to download. Still have 6.0 but no more gross battery drain and I would say series 4 is back to baseline performance.
hi, I had the same problem with battery life of Apple Watch Series 5. What I did. First: reset the Watch by pressing crown and side button simultaneously till the Apple Logo appears on black screen, then release. Second: Unpairing the watch from iPhone, third: install the watch as a new one. Forth: Pairing the watch with the iPhone again and follow the on-screen instructions.
After I've done this, all works fine. The battery life seams to be stable and as long as it is mentioned by Apple.
Good Luck.
