So I just upgraded from a series 2 to a series 5. Yesterday was my first full day and about a hour and a half in I was shocked to see the battery at 84%. Today I turned off the noise measurement & after 6 hours, a trip to the gym it’s at 83%. Seems clear what feature is eating the battery.
Well, of the past 8 1/2 hours I have “usage” of 3 hours 24 min, and the rest is “standby”. I have no idea what to make of that since I haven’t done a thing with my watch except wear it since I got up.
Yeah that is not my experience. When I said my usage and standby time is the same, I meant - the same. And I know I am not raising my wrist and looking at the time the same amount of time as it has been non active. Also, it did the same with AOD on or off.
My S4 is showing different usage and standby.
but thats not what is eating my battery, something else is, and its eating my watch storage too.
I have no apps installed and my photos on the watch are taking 65 MB and music is taking 56MB and all the rest combined will not pass half a gigabyte including music and photos. BUT my available storage is at 0 bytes. My usage is 12.1 GB.
my watch has already told me to delete my 56MB music to make space because it is full. But make space for what and how much more space does it need? And will this 56MB really make a difference.
I have no other apps installed other than what comes with the watch itself. So what is using 12 GB of my watch storage??
This I think is my issue - and my watch is on my arm, not doing anything. AOD is on, but I am not looking at the watch more than 2-3 times an hour. I did have a 40 min call, but that usage should be less than standby.
...and an interesting update. NOW my watch says battery is still at 100% after 10 hours’ use. Last night it actually went flat in the middle of the night even though it said battery was at 99% when I went to bed. Something seriously screwy is going on!
I have also something similar, my watch S4 is reporting better life it took 32 hours to reach 15%. Nothing changed i did the same things i do everyday.
yesterday i went to sleep with the watch at 65% and left it next to me and did not charge it. Today it lasted me till 2PM.
below is the charge and usage when I wore it this morning at 7am
Yes mine completely goes dead when watch still shows it has 40% battery left, I’ve only had it two weeks but Apple customer service sucks, they said I would have to send it in and wait for it to be fixed instead of replacing it like a stand up company would.
Yea I have had it like 18 days but still ridiculous it should be close enough to the 14 days, I mean just not very good support if you ask me it had this problem since right after I got it but I thought some charge cycles would straighten it out but no luck, I’ve always been a Apple fan but not after this.
I have reset, wiped, clean install without backups, perhaps 15 times since series 5 came out across 3 watches I tried. I did a reset just this morning again - no restore from backup, setting it up as new watch. I have changed nothing from the defaults. Still drains at 7 - 8% per hour, which leaves me with less than 13 hours when not using it at all. Noise off, AOD on. Mine is GPS as I returned my cellular after thinking it might be specific to cellular, but alas, same issues with this GPS only watch.
I did a full reset of the iPhone a while ago, setting it up from scratch. I unfortunately only have this new iPhone 11 Pro so I cannot swop it. But you might be right, I also thought about it as I do not get very good battery life on this phone either. It is at 30% at the end of the day and I do not use it extensively. My old iPhone X was way better.
Is there anyone else still having terrible battery life on their series 5 watches? I have been dealing with AppleCare support for the past three weeks and after multiple sets of diagnostic log collections they still have no resolution of my 8 - 12 hour battery life. Is it just me?
I’d like to know how people are getting on with the S5 now that there have been several updates. I sent mine back shortly after the launch. After a week of diagnostics and hassle I just couldn’t cope with the terrible battery life after having such a positive experience with the Series 4.
I don’t see many new complaints or articles in the news feeds about it now.
Mine is still nowhere near my S4, I too have spent way to much time with tech support, with no resolution. I think you aren’t seeing much about the issue anymore because owners like myself are living with the bad battery life.
I decided to return my S5 a week in, as I didn't want to get stuck and not be able to return it. Back to my s4 and not have to worry about battery life. I was going to revisit this thread every few months and if ever resolved with the S5, I would try again. Seems like it is time to check back in a few months.
Sadly this update does nothing for me. Same poor battery life as always. I will give it some more days but I am not keeping my hopes up. Apple engineers have not yet come back to me with a resolution with my case.
