When using my iPhone to play Spotify I’ve noticed that my Apple series 5 watch automatically acts as a remote, when I close the player on the watch it re opens it by itself.

my question is because it appears to be playing via the phone and the watch is it using double the data to play music via cellular? And if so is there a way to stop the watch playing it when I’m using my phone?

many thanks

The Apple Watch is just acting as a remote control for the iPhone audio (like a TV remote control). It is talking to the iPhone via Bluetooth which is not something your cellular carrier can see.

Also Spotify does not currently have the ability to stream to the Apple Watch, so there is no way you could be charged for Spotify data usage on your Apple Watch.
