pictures sent via SMS sometimes grainy

Recently purchased iPhone 11Pro, and so did my husband sometimes when I receive pictures from him they are grainy and look to be of low quality. Is there a setting on either of our phones to correct this? The pictures look fine on his end, so I feel the issue is on mine. And help or suggestions to be able to receive all pictures of the highest quality would be greatly appreciated.
